About the role
V/Line’s North West region is seeking a dedicated Rail Track Labourer to join their maintenance team. In this role, you will report to the Track Ganger and work with your team to perform key tasks such as laying, aligning, repairing, and maintaining railway tracks throughout the region. This position offers the opportunity to work on freight lines, covering over 300 kilometres of track.
The current rostered hours are Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, with a rostered day off every fortnight.
Other responsibilities include:
- Replacement and/or renewal of track & crossing materials i.e. sleepers, rail, ballast, and fastenings.
- Cleaning of plant equipment & worksite up-keep.
- Safe use of hand tools & minor mechanical equipment.
- Based in Kilmore East, travel across the wider Northeastern region will be required at times.
- Flexibility to work overtime and away from home as required.

- Valid Victorian Driver’s License.
- Must have completed Year 10 or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a manual labouring role is advantageous.
- Strong awareness for risk and safety practices.
- Ability to use hand tools.
- Good understanding of MS Office (including word & excel).
- Previous experience working in a labouring or trades environment desirable.
- Demonstrated alignment to V/Line’s values of responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership, and human rights.
