The Alberta Beef Producers (ABP) is seeking a Wildlife Policy Advisor to advance beef producers’ priorities with regards to wildlife. Reporting to the General Manager, this position will work closely with the Government Relations & Policy Lead and the Beef Production & Extension Lead. The successful candidate will serve as the primary liaison with industry and government working groups and committees addressing wildlife-related concerns and opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

The primary duties and responsibilities of the Wildlife Policy Advisor are to:

Represent ABP at key committees and working groups, including but not limited to:

  • Minister’s Special License Auction (MSLA) Committee
  • North American Waterfowl Management Plan (NAWMP) Policy Committee
  • Species at Risk Committee

Collaborate with partners and colleagues to address wildlife conflicts and practical solutions that support producer and conservation objectives.

Promote management practices that reduce livestock-wildlife conflict and disease transmission risk, along with available funding program opportunities.

Lead policy development and coordination to reduce predator and ungulate conflicts with livestock and refine compensation programming.

Travel occasionally to meetings, events.

Contribute to other projects and initiatives as necessary.

Required Skills

  • An excellent communicator who can speak confidently with producers, policymakers, and conservation groups.
  • Organized, self-motivated, and able to balance multiple priorities.
  • Knowledgeable about wildlife management, agricultural policy, or both.
  • Previous experience in a non-profit, board governed, agricultural organization would be an asset but is not required.
  • Relevant degree, diploma or equivalent experience.
