About The Position

Location: Port Augusta, with outreach across surrounding communities

Status: Full Time, Part Time is negotiable

Classification and Rate: SCHADS Level 4, $46.70 per hour

Healing for Strong Families is a healing program for Aboriginal families in Port Augusta. The program supports families impacted by family violence, or who have had child protection involved with their family.

The program is run by Uniting Country SA, together with Ngai Nhina Yura. Families lead the way, and there is no wrong door. The program uses yarning, time on Country, cultural activities and one-on-one support, guided by a Social and Emotional Wellbeing approach.

As the Women’s Practitioner, you will work alongside Aboriginal women, mothers and their families to provide culturally safe, trauma-aware and family-led support. You will provide case management, practical assistance, advocacy and warm referrals, supporting women to strengthen their safety, wellbeing, parenting, relationships, identity and connection to culture, Country, family, community and kin.

Skills and Experiences:
You will:

• Use yarning, deep listening and relationship-based approaches to build trust with Aboriginal women, mothers and their families.
• Provide culturally safe, trauma-aware and healing-informed case management, practical support, advocacy and warm referrals.
• Work with women and families to identify their strengths, needs and goals and develop family-led support and healing plans.
• Support women to strengthen their safety, wellbeing, parenting, relationships, cultural identity and connection to culture, Country, family, community and kin.
• Work alongside families, Elders, cultural leaders, Ngai Nhina Yura and other services to provide coordinated support and culturally appropriate healing.

It is essential for you to have:

• Relevant experience working with Aboriginal women, mothers, families or community.
• The ability to work with Aboriginal women and families in a culturally safe, trauma-aware and respectful way.
• Cultural knowledge and a strong connection to Aboriginal community and local support networks.
• An understanding of family-led decision-making, strengths-based practice, safety planning and safe and respectful family relationships.
• Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
• A current Australian Driver’s Licence.

It is desirable for you to have:

• Certificate IV or higher in Community Services, Child, Youth and Family Intervention, Social Work, Counselling, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, Mental Health or a related field.
• Experience in case management, family support, men’s wellbeing, parenting support or family violence-informed practice.

You will also need to be available for some out of hours or weekend work and travel between Uniting Country SA sites or interstate as required.
