Reporting to the General Superintendent the Working Foreperson leads a bridge crew while actively performing hands-on construction work. This role is responsible for safe daily execution, crew productivity, quality workmanship, and short-interval planning. The Working Foreperson organizes labour, equipment, materials, and subcontractor interfaces for assigned work areas, ensures compliance with drawings and specifications, and maintains site documentation and communication required to keep work progressing efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a crew in the field while performing hands-on work as required to meet daily production goals.
  • Plan and assign daily tasks, communicate expectations clearly, and ensure the crew understands the work plan and constraints.
  • Maintain a strong field presence and actively supervise workmanship, safety behaviours, and productivity.
  • Coach crew members through clear direction, training, and on-the-job problem-solving.
  • Ensure work is performed in compliance with company safety policies, project safety plans, and all applicable legislation.
  • Lead daily hazard identification and ensure controls are in place before work begins.
  • Conduct and document toolbox talks.
  • Ensure proper PPE, safe work procedures, and equipment/tool inspections are completed and enforced.
  • Support look-ahead planning by identifying upcoming labour, equipment, material, and access needs.
  • Drive daily and weekly productivity by managing crew output, minimizing downtime, and maintaining steady workflow.
  • Track labour and equipment usage for assigned work activities and communicate variances or issues to the Superintendent.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce waste while maintaining quality and safety.
  • Support timekeeping and daily records for crew hours, equipment hours, and key production quantities as required.
  • Ensure work is completed to drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Verify layout, dimensions, elevations, and tolerances for assigned work and escalate discrepancies promptly.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards and protect completed work from damage.
  • Execute and supervise typical bridge activities including excavation, formwork, rebar placement, concrete placement, demolition, structural elements, bearings, joints, drainage, and restoration as applicable to the project.
  • Provide clear daily updates to the Superintendent on progress, constraints, safety issues, manpower needs, and changes to plan.
  • Maintain daily documentation as required including field notes, photos, delivery tickets, inspection records support, and production tracking.
  • Communicate professionally with inspectors, consultants, and other stakeholders on-site as directed by supervision.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned, whether specifically or generally related to the role

Experience

  • 5+ years of bridge/heavy civil construction experience with leadership responsibility in the field.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead crews, plan daily work, and deliver safe, high-quality results under schedule pressure.
  • Strong working knowledge of bridge construction methods including formwork, rebar, concrete placement, demolition, structural work, and rehabilitation.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and construction procedures.
  • Strong safety leadership and understanding of high-risk activities including lifting/rigging, work at heights, traffic exposure, and concrete operations.
  • Proficiency with basic field documentation including daily reports, timekeeping support, production tracking, and photo documentation.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to operate small tools and equipment relevant to crew work.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as required.
  • Gold Seal Foreperson certification or equivalent considered an asset.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $34.25-$45.50 per hour

Expected hours: 50 per week

  • Woodstock, ON N4S 8W3: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

  • Bridge Construction : 5 years (required)

Licence/Certification:

  • Class G Licence (required)
