Position Title: Youth Justice Worker
The Employer: Crosscare.

Location: Lucan
Work Schedule: 37.5 hours per week.
Contract: Full-time.
Salary: €38,769 - €57,011 Depending on Experience
Reporting to: Youth Service Manager. All Crosscare employees are expected to work under Crosscare policies and guidelines.
The Role:
The position of Youth Justice Worker within Crosscare is funded by the European Social Fund (2014-2020) and the Irish Youth Justice Service, Department of Justice, and Equality. The Youth Diversion Projects are supported by the Irish Youth Justice Service in conjunction with an Garda Síochána. Youth Justice Workers are expected to work under Crosscare policies and guidelines. Staff members also work to a Project Committee.
General Responsibilities
Direct Work with Young People
  • Identify, engage, and work directly with project participants on issues related to offending, substance use, and/or antisocial behaviour through youth work processes.
  • Target and engage participants who demonstrate socially harmful or at-risk behaviours in the community.
  • Deliver one-to-one and group youth work interventions in the catchment area, in line with the Youth Diversion Project plan approved by the Project Committee.
  • Work with participants to build life skills, confidence, resilience, and positive community engagement.
  • Support participants in improving participation in sustainable employment, including pathways to employment, second-chance education, training, and promoting acceptance of diversity in the workplace.
Partnership & Collaboration
  • Process referrals to the project through the Referral Committee.
  • Work in partnership with An Garda Síochána, Tulsa, schools, family support teams, and other local agencies linked to participants to develop appropriate responses to their needs.
  • Attend Project Referral and Committee meetings, providing progress updates as needed.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, collaborating to deliver programmes effectively.
Record-Keeping & Reporting
  • Keep project records and provide updates and reports, including drafting the Annual Plan, quarterly reports, and annual performance reports following consultative processes with Garda interventions.
  • Ensure accurate case notes, attendance records, and programme documentation are maintained.
Programme Development
  • Deliver structured youth work interventions and programmes tailored to participants’ needs.
  • Work collaboratively in youth cafés, drop-in sessions, and creative programmes, including:
    • Music programme
    • The Big Tree project
    • Outdoor learning initiatives
    • Erasmus programmes
    • Education, training and employment programmes
    • Gaisce programme, active youth challenges
  • Participate in programme planning, evaluation, and ongoing improvement.
Training & Professional Development
  • Attend mandatory and refresher training in line with the youth diversion network, best practice development team, and Crosscare policies.
  • Take part in approved training to support the development of the youth diversion project.
  • Perform any other duties considered necessary by Crosscare, IYJS, An Garda Síochána, or the project committee to fulfil the annual plan.
Person Specification
Essential
  • Qualification in Youth Work, or related field (Level 7 or above desirable) and/or minimum 3 years full-time paid youth work experience.
  • Experience working with at-risk or justice-involved young people.
  • Knowledge of youth justice principles, restorative practice, and safeguarding legislation.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, and residential trips.
  • Full clean driving licence and own transport
  • Excellent IT, report writing skills.
  • Ability to work as a team and on one-to-one basis.
  • Ability to engage in outdoor activities, camping trips, YDP camp, high participation youth programmes as required.
  • Flexibility, good time management, and a professional manner.
  • Child Protection Training.
Desirable
  • Experience in creative, outdoor, or high-participation youth programmes.
  • Restorative Justice/ Restorative Practice Training and/or experience.
  • Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training
  • Knowledge of local services and referral pathways.
  • D or D1 Bus License
