About the opportunity
IFYS has a unique opportunity for a skilled Youth Worker to be part of the first team in Queensland to deliver a new practice model.
Based in Wacol, this program will provide an intensive 24/7 care environment and specialist care for a single young person with complex support needs for a 6-month period.
This intensive two worker model will enable specialist therapeutic assessments to be undertaken to then support a transition for the young person back to community and home-based care.
About the role
The Youth Worker will assist the intensive support team to implement behavioural support and case plans aimed at stabilizing and building capacity of the child to move into family based or non-family-based care.

Key responsibilities
- Provide trauma informed and neuro-divergent affirming care in accordance with the Child Safety Statement of Standards to children placed in the program
- Actively contribute to the design and implementation of programs for children
- Work collaboratively with the Intensive Support Team and as a member of the child’s care team to ensure goals are worked towards
- Support children through individual and group work, structured recreational programs and activities and role modelling
- Work as an effective team member, dealing appropriately with trauma based challenging behaviours and maintaining a safe work environment for children and colleagues
- Undertake general domestic duties as required (e.g., cooking and cleaning)
- Maintain sound knowledge and application of the safe and legal use of emergency restrictive practices and be prepared to do so as required
- Actively participate in training, self-development, and supervision with the goal of continuous improvement
- The timely and accurate completion of administrative duties in line with legislative and contract requirements
Essential criteria to be considered
- Demonstrated experience of successfully working with children demonstrating complex behaviours
- Knowledge of and ability to apply therapeutic and trauma informed practice frameworks
- Strong written communication skills including case noting and contributing information for reporting requirements
- Demonstrate resilience and unwavering, unconditional positive regard for young people
- Ability to complete shifts various shifts over a fortnightly roster including active overnight and sleepover shifts (see further info around shifts below)
Other essential requirements
- Already hold or are enrolled in a Certificate IV or higher in a relevant field prior to commencing work
- A QLD Working With Children Blue Card or have applied for one
- Valid Queensland driver’s license with no restrictions
- As part of our recruitment process, we do a number of history screenings including a Licensed Care Suitability check (LCS2) and a National Crime Check
- If progressed after interview stage, you will be requested to provide the details of two-line managers to provide reference checks (this must include your current employer)
- Ability to seek and obtain a medical clearance from a treating medical practitioner during the recruitment process.
Shift information
To be considered for the position, candidates must be able to complete the following shift times.
- 6:30am-3:00pm
- 7:30am-4:00pm
- 2:30pm-10:00pm
- 3:30pm-8:00am (sleep over)
- 9:30pm-7:00am (awake)
