The Activation Aide is to support the emotional, cognitive, physical, spiritual, and social well-being of long-term care home residents by planning, facilitating, and assisting with therapeutic programs that promote engagement and quality of life.

Qualifications:

1) Successful completion of a post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university or are currently enrolled in a community college or university in a diploma or degree program in such a field.

2) Knowledge and understanding of the aging process, providing therapeutic programming and person-centered care to adults is an asset.

3) Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred, with prior work in a long-term care facility considered an asset.

4) Training in DementiAbility, GPA, and Montessori would be an asset. Training and/or knowledge of palliative care and in working with residents with responsive behaviour is preferred.

5) Demonstrates excellent communication and organizational skills, takes initiative, shows empathy, exhibits leadership qualities, collaboration, and ability to work independently and within a team setting.

6) Competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required.

7) Experience with electronic health records systems, e.g., Point Click Care, and documentation tools, e.g., Activity Pro, preferred.

Responsibilities:

1) Plan, implement, and facilitate both individual and group-based therapeutic programs that align with the strength, abilities, interests, and needs of each resident. Assist in planning and conducting special events and seasonal programs, as required.

2) Evaluate programs on an on-going basis and provide feedback to the Program Manager on their effectiveness in meeting the needs of the residents.

3) Responsible for providing restorative and exercise programs.

4) Monitor and assess residents’ mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being during programming, and document relevant observations and feedback accordingly.

5) Support the safe and inclusive participation of residents in both on-site and off-site programs and special events.

6) Encourage and assist resident participation in programs and activities, as appropriate.

7) Complete all required program and resident care documentation according to department policies and procedures.

8) Attend and participate in staff meeting, in-service training programs, and other meetings and trainings as assigned.

9) Other related duties as assigned.

Job Types: Part-time, Casual

Pay: $21.53-$23.25 per hour
