The After school Educator will:
· Provide a care and education program for school age children in a group setting under the direction of the Centre’s Executive Director/Supervisor
Job Duties
· Develop and deliver age-appropriate programs based on planned goals for each child and observations documenting their individual interests.
· Extend children’s learning through the understanding of child development, and reflection.
· Organize space, equipment and materials prior to activities and be prepared in advance for the day if time permits.
· Use a variety of teaching techniques including modeling, observing, questioning, demonstrating, and reinforcing.
· Plan and carry out experiences which facilitate an understanding of a variety of cultures and value systems.
· Promote the health, safety, nutrition, and well-being of children by encouraging and modeling proper hygiene practices and routines
· Promote and model positive interactions with children, families, and staff.
· Model developmentally appropriate activities and positive behaviour management techniques through daily contact with children and co-workers.
· Maintain the daily logbook, include all required information including attendance, illnesses, injuries,, nutrition, play experiences, temperament, information requests by parents etc.+
· Ensure activities are play-based and adhere to the Child and Early Years Act and other relevant legislation.
· Check playground daily prior to the children entering the playground.
· Maintain confidentiality of all information related to the centers' children, their parents, and staff.
· Attend all meetings as required including team meetings, staff meetings etc.
· Work in collaboration with the Resource consultant to implement strategies when required.
· Release children to authorized persons only upon departure.
· Report all suspect incidents of child abuse to the Supervisor/Executive Director and follow the centers' procedures and government legislation.
· Recognize that staff has a duty to report incidents to C.A.S. if a report is not filed by the Supervisor/Executive Director
Conditions of employment
· Standard First Aid with Level C – infant/child CPR
· Completed Health Assessment.
· Vulnerable sector screen that has been completed within the last 6 months.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $23.02-$24.37 per hour
