About the Role
Swinburne University is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to join us as the Associate Director Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Advanced Analytics. This role will lead the AI and Advanced Analytics function within the Data and AI Centre of Excellence, delivering innovative AI solutions, enabling the development of AI across the university and delivering impactful, data-driven machine learning models across the university that drive benefit in enabling the university strategy.

The successful candidate will operate these teams with a commercial mindset, collaborating with senior stakeholders across the university to identify and prioritise high value opportunities for AI and Advance analytics. As well as sourcing the opportunities they will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of AI and analytics projects, ensuring alignment with university goals and generating measurable outcomes that enhance academic and operational performance.

This position will be critical in developing out the AI function and managing the current highly skilled advance analytic team, developing scalable AI and analytics infrastructure, develop ways of working to free AI across the university. Through their leadership, the Associate Director will help position Swinburne as a sector leader in AI and analytics-driven innovation.

About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:

  • Extensive experience in being an AI evangelist, identifying, winning and delivering AI solutions
  • Extensive experience in setting up AI teams, setting up process and patterns of work, using a MLOPs framework utilizing Data Bricks.
  • Extensive experience enabling scalable scaffolding to enable AI to be used across the university
  • The ideal candidate will come from a traditional machine learning background, with a strong track record of delivering successful projects from conception to deployment
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement AI and analytics initiatives that deliver significant returns on investment for the university
  • Proven experience in building and managing high-performing AI and analytics teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence senior university staff and stakeholders
  • Strong project management skills, with experience in coordinating and tracking resource planning for AI and analytics projects

Qualifications
  • Postgraduate qualifications Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Professional certifications in AI, data science, or related areas are highly desirable
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior data / AI sales and delivery role
