Book Processing Assistant

Job Purpose:

To ensure all stock accurately and efficiently processed into the internal system/database, following organisational standards for metadata, categorisation, and inventory tracking. This role supports the smooth operation of book availability, searchability, distribution and stock accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enter detailed bibliographic data (e.g., title, author, ISBN, publisher, publication year) into the system.
  • Assign appropriate categories, subjects, and keywords according to classification standards (e.g., Fiction/Non Fiction, etc.).
  • Ability to manage Productivity daily with the processing of second-hand books.
  • Ability to achieve and exceed daily targets set out by Store Management.
  • Apply barcodes and labels as required.
  • Verify and cross-check data with source materials or supplier records.
  • Maintain and update book records to reflect changes (e.g., status, location, editions).
  • Liaise with Second-hand team to ensure stock levels are maintained.
  • Ensure that all processing follows internal data standards and quality assurance protocols.
  • Perform stock checks or audits to ensure database accuracy.
  • Assist with the physical handling of books where required (e.g., unpacking, shelving, sorting).
  • Efficient workflow in grading books and processing of them into the system.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Proficient in data entry and using inventory/database systems.
  • Basic understanding of book metadata (e.g., title, author, ISBN).
  • Good organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Comfortable handling physical materials and repetitive tasks.

Desirable:

  • Experience with cataloguing software (e.g., Booksolve, Excel or similar).
  • Familiarity with books and retail classification systems (ISBN, Title, Author, Category, etc.).
  • Previous experience in a library, bookshop, or publishing environment.
  • Knowledge of book industry practices.

Working Conditions:

  • Stockroom and Shopfloor environment.
  • Will involve light physical tasks (lifting books, moving boxes).
  • Standard working hours, with occasional flexibility.

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term
Contract length: 3 months

Pay: €13.50 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
