Category Manager

Location: Ōtāhuhu, Auckland

Function: Sales

Type of Contract: Full-time Permanent

As DB's Category Manager, you spearhead channel insights and category management decisions for Traditional Liquor and Mainstream/Flavoured products (RTD, Cider, and Seltzers). Your mission is to drive business growth, profitability, and customer satisfaction in your assigned channels. As the Channel Champion for Traditional Liquor and Category Champion for Mainstream and Flavoured products, you provide sharp insights to the Sales and Marketing teams.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead category insights and recommendations for the traditional channel, utilizing shopper data and networking to drive positive change and explore new opportunities. Develop category and shopper knowledge while maintaining reporting standards for strategy and KPI monitoring.
  • Shape the 3-year building winning channels strategy and annual channel plans for the Traditional Channel.
  • Lead plan presentations, track effectiveness, and advise on Trade Spend.
  • Collaborate with Trade Marketing for aligned Shopper Strategy.
  • Lead the DB Category Strategy, champion with Traditional customers, align NPD with category vision, leverage shopper insights with DunnHumby and/or Quantium software, deliver customized recommendations, and foster strong customer relationships.
  • Collaborate with Brand and Trade Marketing for Mainstream and New Age Flavoured plans.
  • Serve as Category Champion for Key Accounts and Field Sales. Develop guidelines, drive NPD recommendations, and ensure alignment with Category Strategy Manager. Proactively address issues with Key Accounts and Field teams.

Your background and experience

  • Tertiary qualification in relevant discipline is preferred, with broad, up-to-date subject matter knowledge.
  • 5+ years’ experience in marketing and/or sales functions or relevant positions
  • Strong analytical and numerical aptitude.
  • Effective written and oral communication, along with formal presentation skills.
  • Must have moderate to advanced experience in Aztec/AC Nielsen scan data tools.
  • Exposure or knowledge of DunnHumby or Quantium shopper data tools is an advantage.
  • Preferred advanced Excel skills.
