**This role is based in Jerrabomberra, on the border of NSW/ACT approx. 30 mins from Canberra CBD**
Role Purpose
As a Chemical Process Technician, this role will be responsible for operating and monitoring chemical production equipment and ensuring the efficient and safe operation of process plant. Your primary focus will be on maintaining production rates, improving unit operation efficiencies, effect process changes to adapt to new equipment, develop SOP’s & Checklists, conduct Risk Assessments, Plant Run Log entries, lab data interpretations, and adhering to safety protocols and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor chemical production equipment, including pumps, valves, reactors, and control systems, to ensure the smooth operation of the processing line.
- Monitor process parameters such as temperature, pressure, flow rates, and levels to ensure compliance with established procedures & guidelines and make necessary adjustments as required.
- Conduct regular inspections and maintenance activities on equipment to ensure their proper functioning and report any malfunctions or abnormalities.
- Maintain an organised production area and manage workflow.
- Monitor equipment and operational efficiencies and make suggestions on improvements.
- Apply SPC / 6-Sigma tools to monitor yields and efficiencies.
- Monitor and control the chemical process from start to finish, including raw material stocktake, addition, mixing, reaction, purification, crystallisation, liquid extraction, and distillation.
- Maintain accurate and reliable records of production data, including batch numbers, quantities produced, equipment settings, and any deviations from the SOP’s.
- Perform quality control checks on raw materials, intermediate products, and finished goods to ensure they meet quality specifications and take corrective actions as necessary.
- Follow safety protocols and procedures at all times to prevent accidents, spills, and other incidents. Report any safety concerns to the Production Team Leader immediately.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment which includes ensuring all equipment is washed down and/or packed away at the end of each task or shift.
- Apply 5S around work areas by sorting different types of materials and equipment, set them in a logical order, maintain them in good condition, standardize it across work areas and sustain this procedure over time with the use of labels and disposing of items that are no longer relevant for the operations.
- Collaborate with other team members, such as senior engineers, lab personnel, maintenance technicians, and quality assurance personnel, to troubleshoot issues and improve process efficiency.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and make recommendations to optimise productivity, reduce waste, and enhance product quality; ability to lead process tests and trials.
- Follow good manufacturing practices (GMP) and ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, such as environmental and safety regulations.
Skills and Competencies
- Tertiary qualification in Chemical, Process, Industrial or Production Engineering.
- Four years of experience in a s similar role within the chemical manufacturing, process of industrial engineering industry.
- Strong understanding of chemical processes, equipment, and instrumentation.
- Six Sigma or similar SPC qualification an advantage.
- In-depth knowledge of safety regulations and practices related to chemical handling and manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with quality control procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, such as PFD’s, P&ID’s, SOP’s, and safety guidelines.
- Fundamental computational (Excel and Word, sending emails) and good mathematical skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to make quick decisions in a fast-paced production environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
