Te Whatu Ora Waitematā

Waitematā District have an excellent opportunity available for a registered Health or Clinical psychologist to join our Cancer Support team: Psychology and Social Work

We are seeking a psychologist who has experience in working with cancer patients or within a physical or mental health setting. The role involves providing high quality psychological services, including assessment and intervention, across the cancer pathway. The work is varied so will keep any psychologist interested and motivated.

Join a team of dedicated and experienced professionals committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered cancer support and integrating psychological expertise to improve outcomes for patients and their families.

Our Cancer Support Service: Psychology and Social Work Team are a tight-knit and supportive group of 6 social workers and psychologists who provide evidence based assessment and interventions for people over the age of 16 who are being treated for cancer within all tumour streams and haematology. The purpose of our service is two-fold: both to assist people in coping with their diagnosis and treatment, and also to ensure that they are able to access their treatment in a timely and equitable manner – ensuring that we remove as many barriers to treatment (either psychological or social) as we can. We work across clinics at multiple hospital sites within the Waitematā District including both inpatient and outpatient clinics at North Shore Hospital, Waitakere Hospital, and satellite outpatient clinics in Hibiscus Coast and Warkworth. We work within the wider Cancer Service at Waitematā, across all tumour streams in both surgical and medical specialties. We have close relationships with the other regional Cancer Support teams in Counties Manukau, Te Toka Tumai, and Te Tai Tokerau Districts.

We have a great team, so we would love to hear from psychologists who enjoy working with others, have strengths in maintaining effective relationships and are keen to be part of a dynamic and supportive team.

There is opportunity for more experienced psychologists to supervise and support student placements and interns from Auckland and Massey University.

Applications from new graduates will be considered. Regular supervision is provided and there will be plenty of professional development opportunities.

  • Registered with the NZ Psychologist Board (NZPB) with a current practicing certificate
  • Comprehensive psychological assessment and treatment skills
  • The ability to work with a wide variety of clients including those from various cultural/ethnic backgrounds
  • The ability to work autonomously in our outpatient clinics

We have a lot to offer you:

  • A hardworking, supportive yet fun environment
