Job Summary
Are you someone who’s compassionate, curious, and looking to make a real difference? A unique and rewarding opportunity awaits the right person to become part of a small, person-centred support team for a bright, fun-loving young autistic man.
We’re looking for committed, empathetic, and dedicated Support Workers who are passionate about building meaningful relationships and supporting individuals in living rich, connected lives. In this role, you won’t just be a support worker, you’ll be a mentor, a peer, and a trusted companion as he builds confidence, independence, and connection in the community.
This young man brings curiosity, humour, and warmth to those around him. He enjoys being out and about, especially when it involves trains, construction sites, trucks, or anything with gears and engines. He loves listening to music, watching animated movies, going out for meals, and sharing laughs. He’s also up for swimming, boating, pitch & putt, and catching a baseball game.
We believe in creating environments where people can thrive; where strengths are celebrated, interests are encouraged, and trust is built through authentic relationships. As part of our team, you’ll help support day-to-day routines, community engagement, and eventually, employment opportunities tailored to his unique skills and passions.
This is more than a job, it’s an opportunity to walk alongside someone as they grow, explore, and connect with the world around them.
If you’re patient, dependable, and excited by the idea of supporting someone in living a full, joyful life, we’d love to meet you.
What You'll Be Doing
This is a unique opportunity to support an incredible young man in doing the things he loves, both out in the community and in day-to-day life. You’ll be hanging out with him as a peer and trusted support, building connection through shared experiences like swimming, tubing, visiting Playland, watching movies, doing puzzles, and more. The goal is to foster joy, independence, and a strong sense of self.
We're looking for someone who values genuine, trusting relationships and who can support this individual in making their own choices. You’ll act as a guide, mentor, and friend; someone who is collaborative, a great communicator, and naturally encouraging of growth and learning. Strong communication skills are important, especially in helping build understanding and connection through conversation.
This young man feels most comfortable with someone who shares similar interests and can relate to his experiences, a peer who brings patience, humour, and calm energy. A relaxed, grounded presence with a natural ability to build rapport will go a long way in this role.
You're someone who’s:
- Friendly, fun, and enjoys being active
- Physically fit and comfortable participating in a range of activities, from outdoor adventures to community outings
- Patient, kind, and confident in building relationships
- A clear and fluent communicator who can model language and support social interactions
- Able to work independently with good judgment, while also being a strong team player who collaborates well with others, including fellow support workers and family members
- Able to see people for who they are, not who others expect them to be
- Open to new experiences and committed to inclusion
You must have a valid Class 5 BC driver’s license. While having your own vehicle is a bonus, it's not a requirement for this role.
Living near or having easy access to the North Shore is an asset, as many activities take place off the North Shore.
Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada on a long-term basis.
This position is ideal for someone who’s excited to make a difference in someone’s life by showing up authentically, supporting their independence, and sharing in their passions.
