Work in a team where you'll support the day-to-day operations of the court by managing cases and working with different participants.
- Work with a range of stakeholders who interact with the court
- Deliver a service with high accuracy and professionalism.
- Exercise Deputy Registrar powers.
This is a Permanenent Full Time position, 40 hours per week based at Hastings District Court.
As a Court Registry Officer, you will work with a team responsible for the successful operation of the Court. You will liaise with multiple stakeholders including defendants, witnesses, family members, Oranga Tamariki, Lawyers, and Police Officers. You will be able to communicate confidently with Judges within the courtroom and their chambers, as well as other members of the judiciary. You will manage your own caseload of files and ensure their timely and efficient progression through the court process.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Court Taking – this is facilitating the running of the court. This includes introducing Judges (in English and Te Reo Māori), working closely with them in the Courtroom and Chambers, and general administration of the court
- Customer Service – the Court operates a public counter where court participants file documents and make enquiries for any court related matter. Here you will receive documents and answer participant queries via face to face, telephone or email interactions
- Case Management – this involves communicating with lawyers and judges, ensuring files are accurate and up to date and setting cases down for court hearing time. This part of the role involves a large component of data entry

- Cultural Appreciation – You'll have an understanding and appreciation of cultural issues and concerns in particular Tikanga Māori),;
- Te Tiriti o Waitangi – You will bring a working knowledge of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and the implications of these for the work of Te Tāhū o te Ture – Ministry of Justice;
- Detail orientated and observant – accuracy and quality of work are essential across the many court processes you will be required to undertake;
- Self-aware – you'll understand our customers and will be confident working across a range of situations;
- Multi-task – you'll understand that some of our processes are repetitive, but you'll be able to manage conflicting priorities and move from one task to another quickly;
- Willing to learn – legislation and processes in the courts is always changing and you will be able to adapt and respond to feedback. You may also, at times, be required to travel to other centers within Aotearoa New Zealand for training.
- Resilience – there are times when working in the courts, you will be working on sensitive cases and sometimes at high volume
- Drivers Licence – You will be required to travel to Hawkes Bay hearing courts and other off-site venues so a clean full New Zealand drivers licence is required

Utu ā-tau/Salary
Salary Range per annum: $58,729 to $80,794. The appointing salary will be based on skills and experience.
