Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Responsibilities

In this role you will participate in and lead a characterization team to maintain and operate electrical characterization tools at cryogenic temperatures following standard protocols. You will be working closely with the fabrication, packaging, data science and characterization teams to carry out electrical measurements, generate new protocols and read those results out to the program. Equipment specification and generating characterization scaling strategies will be required. Main responsibilities include:
  • Execution of standardized and development of new measurement protocols.
  • Management of 4K characterization team, equipment and workflow.
  • Daily monitoring of tools and processes.
  • Communicating results and sharing project reports.
  • Management of tool or process data with existing data infrastructure.
  • Helping to generate long-term equipment plans and measurement strategies.
  • Model security and safety standards and practices including compliance with policies, demonstrating good judgement in a variety of work environments.
  • Embody Microsoft's Culture and Values

Qualifications

This role will support Microsoft’s first party qubit development based upon superconductor-semiconductor hybrid devices which are designed and fabricated in-house. The 4K testing contributes to the development of material and fabrication process technology blocks as well as characterizing complete devices before mK measurement. This role works at the interface between fabrication, mK characterization and data science teams.

Required Qualifications
  • Significant direct hands-on experience with cryogenic semiconductor device electrical measurement and characterization systems.
  • Significant direct hands-on experience with programming such as Python, MATLAB.
  • Undergraduate or higher degree in engineering, physics or related fields.
  • Understanding of device physics and electronic measurement techniques.
  • Experience with I-V and C-V characterization of semiconductor devices using equipment such as SMUs, lock-in amplifiers, LCR meters, and understanding of grounding hygiene.
  • Experience within vacuum and cryogenic systems or any relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s or higher degree in engineering, physics or related fields.
  • Experience managing teams and interfacing with different groups.
  • Experience with code revisioning systems and protocols such as Git.
  • Solid hands-on experience with cryogenic semiconductor device electrical measurement and characterization systems.
  • Solid direct hands-on experience with programming such as Python, MATLAB.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor physics parameter measurement including spin orbit coupling, superconducting proximity effect and disorder characterization.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor fabrication processing techniques.
  • Experience with AI and AI Agents.
