Purpose:

Fryeburg Academy, a 700-student day and boarding high school in Western Maine and the Mount Washington Valley, has openings for a custodial staff position. Responsibilities include performing custodial maintenance duties, including dusting, mopping, finishing and buffing floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, cleaning and restocking restrooms. We are looking for individuals who enjoy working in a campus setting and who take pride in making our school a positive reflection of our commitment to our students, our staff and our community. The openings available are part-time (up to 30-hours/wk) with a potential of full-time for the ideal candidate.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs general, routine custodial duties, to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies.
• Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies.
• Empties trash receptacles, disposes trash into dumpsters
• Reports needs and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting or recommending work orders and checking supply levels;
• For positions within on-campus residence halls acts in a respectful, responsible and professional manner when interacting with resident students
• Participates in deep cleaning when dorm room/apartment or classroom turnover occurs.
• Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
• Secures the facility, ensuring building is locked/unlocked as required
• Assists in on-the-job training of new staff on routine procedures.
• Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on seasonal/project requirements including deep cleaning of facilities in the summer months and during school break(s).
• May assist or perform snow removal activities and minor maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, adjusting furniture, or other similar activities.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Dispositions:

• Ability to understand written and verbal instructions
• Ability to understand and follow safety procedures
• Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies
• Maintains friendly, efficient, positive guest service demeanor towards guests, clients and co-workers

Qualifying Experience:

• Custodial experience preferred; no previous experience required
• All Fryeburg Academy employees are subject to Maine Dept. of Education Criminal History Record check.

• Day shift
• Evening shift
• Monday to Friday
• Weekends as needed
