Delivery Driver Job Description

Job Summary The delivery driver ensures the safe and efficient delivery of goods, such as cases of coffee, sugar, creamer, and cups to convenient stores and businesses. They operate vehicles, follow delivery schedules, and provide excellent customer service while maintaining accurate delivery records.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transport Goods: Drive vehicle to deliver items to specified locations, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries.
  • Route Planning: Follow optimized delivery routes.
  • Load and Unload: Safely load and unload goods, ensuring items are handled with care to prevent damage.
  • Customer Interaction: Provide courteous and professional service to customers, addressing inquiries and resolving minor issues (e.g., incorrect orders or delays).
  • Documentation: Obtain customer signatures, and maintain accurate records of deliveries, payments, or returns.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Perform basic vehicle checks (e.g., fuel, oil, tires) and report any maintenance issues to ensure the vehicle is in good working condition.
  • Compliance: Adhere to traffic regulations, safety standards, and company policies, including proper handling of sensitive or perishable items.
  • Inventory Management: Track inventory, report discrepancies, and ensure goods are delivered in the correct condition.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Valid Driver’s License: A clean driving record and a valid license appropriate for the vehicle type (e.g., standard, commercial, or motorcycle license).
  • Driving Experience: Familiarity with operating delivery vehicles and navigating urban or rural areas.
  • Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks and meet tight delivery schedules.
  • Customer Service: Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with customers professionally.
  • Physical Stamina: Capability to lift and carry packages (often 20-50 lbs, sometimes heavier) and work in various weather conditions.
  • Tech Savvy: Comfort using GPS, delivery apps, or mobile devices for tracking and communication.
  • Attention to Detail: Accuracy in verifying orders, addresses, and delivery instructions.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred but not always required).
  • Previous delivery or driving experience is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Knowledge of local roads and geography is beneficial.

Work Environment

  • Delivery drivers often work independently, spending most of their time on the road.
  • May involve early morning, evening, weekend, or holiday shifts, depending on the situation.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions and traffic situations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $52,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
