Design Engineer – R&D

OUR ROLE

We are seeking a talented Design Engineer to join Fiskars R&D team. In this role, you will be a key contributor to the development of innovative consumer products that combine functionality, durability, and sustainability. You will work at the intersection of design and engineering—transforming ideas into manufacturable solutions that delight consumers worldwide.

As a Design Engineer, you will take ownership of mechanical design tasks, from concept creation to final production, ensuring that every detail meets our high standards of quality and performance. You will collaborate with industrial designers, product managers, and global manufacturing partners to bring ideas to life, balancing creativity with technical feasibility and cost efficiency.

This is a hands-on role where your expertise in CAD modelling, materials, and manufacturing processes will make a real impact. If you thrive in a dynamic environment and want to shape the future of gardening products, Fiskars Group is the place for you.

This position is based either in Espoo or Billnäs factory, Finland, and reports to our Senior Manager, R&D. The role is full-time and hybrid.

WHAT YOU’LL DO AT FISKARS GROUP

Responsibilities:

Develop new consumer products from concept through production using 3D CAD modeling and prototyping.
Collaborate closely with industrial designers, engineers, product managers, and manufacturing teams to ensure design feasibility and quality.
Communicate with global suppliers and sourcing offices to meet technical and quality requirements.
Participate in design validation, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Support cost optimization efforts by identifying opportunities and implementing changes to technical specifications.
Stay informed on emerging technologies, materials, and manufacturing processes to drive innovation.
Integrate sustainability by using eco-friendly materials, improving durability, and optimizing designs to reduce environmental impact.

WHO YOU ARE

Experience:

MSc/BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum 3 years of experience in product development with a strong focus on mechanical design.
Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred) and understanding of plastic and metal part manufacturing technologies.
Strong problem-solving and ideation skills with attention to detail.
Familiarity with prototyping tools and methods.
Positive attitude and ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally.
