Position Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Road Service Diesel Mechanic who can diagnose and repair equipment wherever it sits — in the field, on a job site, or at a customer’s property. This role requires strong mechanical skill, independence, and sound judgment.

You’ll represent B&T MacFarlane on the road, so professionalism, communication, and problem-solving under pressure are key. The ideal candidate is adaptable, thorough, and takes pride in getting the job done right — safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities:

• Travel to customer sites to service and repair Kubota and other diesel-powered equipment where it is located.
• Conduct daily CVOR or ELD vehicle inspections, including required documentation (via mobile app).
• Participate in the rotational winter after-hours service program, which includes a separate compensation incentive.
• Inspect excavators, backhoes, heavy equipment, and agricultural equipment for faults and performance issues.
• Diagnose malfunctions using computerized and other testing tools to determine necessary repairs.
• Communicate effectively with vendors (e.g., Kubota Service Center) to support accurate diagnosis and resolution.
• Adjust, repair, or replace defective parts, components, or systems using appropriate tools.
• Test repaired equipment to ensure work meets manufacturer specifications.
• Perform lubrication, cleaning, and other routine maintenance as needed.
• Order required parts accurately and follow up to ensure prompt completion of service work.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed and communicate progress with the Service Manager.
• Keep the service vehicle, tools, and workspace clean and organized.
• Follow all safety and security procedures, reporting hazards or unsafe conditions immediately.

Qualifications:

• Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Technician or Agricultural Equipment Technician certification (asset).
• Minimum of 5 years of experience servicing heavy equipment or diesel machinery.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean record; must be 25 years or older for insurance eligibility.
• Experience with CVOR, commercial vehicle operations, hoists, and mobile service work.
• Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills.
• Strong time management and self-organization — able to work independently.
• Willingness to complete ongoing training and certification as required.
• Must supply own tools.

Essential Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly.
• Ability to occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch.
• Ability to use step stools and ladders to reach high shelving items.
• Ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
• Ability to see and respond to dangerous situations.
• Ability to wear personal protective equipment correctly.

Compensation:
Compensation is based on knowledge, skills, education, and experience.
After a three-month probationary period, employees are eligible for a comprehensive benefits plan that includes life insurance.
All necessary PPE will be provided, including a high-visibility winter coat for on-site work (excluding steel-toed safety boots).

Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Location: 45 Slack Road, Ottawa, Ontario (onsite parking available).
Company service vehicle provided.
