Gaston Day School is an independent, coeducational day school for 500 students in grades K-12. This posting is for an evening part-time kitchen position that will be for the duration of the school year. The primary responsibilities of the Gaston Day School Kitchen Utility position are, but not limited to washing pots, pans, utensils, kitchen tools, assisting in serving on the lunch line and minor kitchen prep. There is potential for after hours catering work that would be presented as it becomes available.

Responsibilities:

● Keeps the dish area free of clutter and organized.

● Set up dish stations, including dishmachines and sinks.

● Properly washes, stacks, and stores china, glassware, silverware, cookware, and storage containers.

● Changes water of sinks every two hours, or as required by business levels, and properly uses chemical dilutions set by EcoLab.

● Maintains a safe and clean work station.

● Assists in the timely storing of food deliveries.

● Maintains trash cans in the kitchen throughout the work shift and removes full trash cans and boxes at the end of each shift.

● Assists in food prep and any other duties requested by the chef as needed.

● Assist in serving on the lunch line as needed.

● Assist in lunch delivery to lower school and admin as needed.

● Assist in inventory of kitchen supplies.

Qualifications:

Ability to stand, bend and reach for up to 6 hour shifts and the ability to lift 25 pounds. Strong problem solving skills. Good time management. “Can do” work attitude. Previous kitchen experience is a plus, but not necessary
