Director of Operations Manufacturing

Position Summary

The Director of Operations Manufacturing will coach and mentor the Operations Business Team in the Belfast facility and develop and execute a GQO Medical Global strategy that meets future customer needs.

This responsibility includes the following key activities.

  • Ensuring a high level of EHS, people engagement and talent management within manufacturing.Â
  • Delivering on all EHS, Quality, Service, TTM and Cost goals & objectives.
  • Ensuring that there is an appropriate manufacturing strategy that aligns with Medical’s current and future business needs and is in line with GQO & Medical Divisional Strategy.
  • Assume the responsibility of the local site lead/plant manager, when required.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Coaches and guides the Operations Business team.
  • Sponsors an environment of Safety, Quality, People Development and CI within Stryker by working with business partners to define expected standards and the roles/responsibilities in the conservation of these standards.
  • Champions a positive employee environment by promoting open communication, engagement, and development of quality teams. Promotes a culture of inclusiveness, trust, flexibility and teamwork.
  • Ensures effective processes in the selection of competent talent and supports the development of future potential experts and leaders. Ensures effective training and performance management processes are in place and executed.
  • Sponsors and ensures engagement in all internal and external audit programmes such as Corporate, notified body & FDA audits.
  • Supports the budgeting and projection processes for operations manufacturing and ensuring our financial commitments are met.
  • Supports the day-to-day effective management of production, ensuring products are produced in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Establishes performance targets for all Business Units, and monitor actual Business Units performance against targets, taking appropriate and timely corrective action where negative trends begin to emerge.
  • Ensures local site goals are aligned with the Division’s goals and are being achieved.
  • Oversight and responsibility to ensure operation units maintains adherence to all KPI’s (Safety, Quality, Service, Cost, and People Development). Continuously monitors and partakes in local and global forums to assess opportunities for improvement.
  • With global alignment, ensures that necessary capacity is in place across the network to meet our customers’ demands. Ensure site capacity requirements are systemised, governed effectively and end customers’ needs are met – short term and long term. Leverages the GQO network to drive capacity and business continuity for the Stryker Belfast product portfolio.
  • Represents manufacturing in setting NPI standards re launches, ensuring availability of resources and FG product to meet agreed launch plans.
  • Fosters strong collaboration across all functions, has a strategic view in identifying alignment and developing strategies.
  • Contributes as a key member of SYK Site Management Team to develop and implement a manufacturing execution plan for the site. Â
  • Builds a high trust and engagement culture within operations. Leads and demonstrates behaviours that drive engagement every day.
  • Builds and develops talent within the function and site. Supports and mentors other team members as required.
  • Ensures effective performance management, communications, and recognition within function.
  • Supports and/or manages major CI Programs as required, which may include being involved at any or all phases of project/program from idea to execution phase.
  • Leads and directs a cross functional management support team for the site – this will require working closely with the Ireland functional leaders to ensure appropriate alignment of functional strategies at a local level.
  • Provides a great customer experience for internal and external customer site visits.
  • Establishes and sustains appropriate site communications forums.
  • Supports standardising approaches and practices across Operations locally and globally.
  • All other duties as required.

Basic Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering or Business discipline or 10+ Operational leadership experience and a proven track record of success in a manufacturing environment, ideally in a regulated industry.
  • Minimum of 6+ or more years’ experience and a proven track record of successfully creating and managing a highly talented, engaged and performing team.
  • Demonstrated understanding of manufacturing excellence and experience in successful implementation of significant change management initiatives.
  • Excellent leadership skills with a proven track record of creating a high trust, high performance, and engaging work environment.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, influencing and facilitation skills.

Preferred Qualifications (Basic Qualifications +).

  • Master’s Degree
  • Experience working in a medical device or similarly regulated environment
  • Demonstrated expertise in the core methods and tools of Six Sigma and Lean with proven ability to deliver business results using Six Sigma and Lean
  • Prior experience facilitating Lean/Six Sigma workshops and leading Kaizen events
  • Strong leadership abilities, including the ability to lead groups of people with diverse skill sets
  • Requires strong commensurate leadership skills in an applicable discipline with working knowledge of other related disciplines and with manufacturing processes, planning, budgeting, and staffing.
  • Results-based style with strong influencing.
