This is a full-time, role (39 hours per week, September–June). The Montessori follows the academic year and is closed during July and August.
As an Early Years Practitioner working in the Montessori School at Portobello Institute, the purpose of your role is to:
- Work closely with children and colleagues within the Montessori setting.
- Support and implement the daily routine for the children.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment each day.
- Plan and deliver activities that reflect the children’s interests and emerging needs.
- Record and share daily observations with parents.
- Support the inclusion of children with additional needs, working alongside the Lead Practitioner and AIM worker.
Responsibilities:
- Work with children aged 2.5 to 6 years within the Montessori setting.
- Collaborate with the Lead Practitioner and AIM worker to support all children, including those with additional needs.
- Act as Deputy Manager in the Manager’s absence.
- Hold key-holder responsibility for the setting.
- Communicate effectively with parents, including welcoming children each morning and providing handovers at home time.
The Person:
You are someone who genuinely enjoys working with young children and brings warmth, professionalism, and reliability to the setting each day. You understand the importance of early years education and are passionate about creating a safe, engaging, and supportive environment where every child is seen, heard, and encouraged.
You are confident communicating with parents and colleagues, and you take pride in maintaining high standards of care, cleanliness, and professionalism. You work well within a team, show initiative, are trustworthy and are comfortable stepping into responsibility when needed — including supporting the lead practitioner and acting as deputy in the manager’s absence.
You understand the value of routine, observation, and planning in an early year’s environment, and you are open to learning and development, including becoming familiar with the Montessori method if not already trained.

Recommended to have:
- Minimum level 5 in Early Childhood Care and Education is essential however level 6,7,8 and 9 is also an advantage.
- One year experience working within an early years setting.
- A working knowledge of Aistear and Siolta
- Montessori training experience is an advantage
Working Schedule:
- Monday to Friday 8am to 4 pm. Class times are 8:30am to 11:30am and 12 to 3pm
- Academic Year - September to June inclusive
