Job Summary:
The Editor-in-Chief will be responsible for leading the editorial direction and overall content strategy of the newspaper. This role involves overseeing all aspects of news gathering, editing, and publication to ensure the newspaper maintains its credibility, relevance, and leadership in the market. The Editor-in-Chief will ensure journalistic integrity, uphold editorial standards, and drive impactful journalism that informs, engages, and inspires readers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the newsroom and manage all editorial operations, including news selection, editing, and publication.
- Supervise and mentor reporters, editors, and contributors to maintain high editorial standards.
- Set the daily news agenda and ensure balanced, accurate, and timely coverage of local, national, and international news.
- Oversee the design, layout, and presentation of the print edition.
- Ensure compliance with journalistic ethics, media laws, and organizational policies.
- Approve final proofs and headlines before the paper goes to press.
- Collaborate with the digital team to maintain content synergy between print and online platforms.
- Build and maintain relationships with public figures, government agencies, and news sources.
- Monitor competitor publications and industry trends to keep the newspaper ahead in market relevance.
- Represent the newspaper at press events, conferences, and in public forums as needed.
- Manage the editorial budget and resource allocation efficiently.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, English, or a related field.
- Minimum 12-15 years of experience in print journalism, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership position.
- Proven record of newsroom leadership and editorial excellence.
- Strong command of language, editorial judgment, and journalistic ethics.
- Deep understanding of news reporting, editing, and print production processes.
- Ability to make quick editorial decisions under tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in newsroom software and print layout tools (e.g., InDesign, CMS).
