Energy Project Development Engineer

Energy Project Development Engineer

The Energy Project Development Engineer is responsible for effectively identifying strategic energy project opportunities throughout the company and its subsidiaries. This role is critical in improving and maintaining cost of production for manufacturing sites, development of new energy initiatives (i.e. wind, solar, battery, demand flexibility) and internal / external support for the company and its customers. This role will have a significant focus on process heat and plant efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Actively investigate energy efficiency opportunities for the business to capitalise on
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and suggest applications for the group
  • Produce effective energy reports across business units
  • Provide fast response – high-level commercial & technical advice during early concept development for energy opportunities
  • Develop detailed business cases and commercial models for new energy initiatives through to a CAPEX application.
  • Contract development and negotiation for energy projects
  • Build and maintain relationships with EECA, energy retailers, energy consultants and major equipment suppliers
  • Internal & External Advisory for the company
  • Support business development at the company by working with sales manager to quantify opportunities for customers
  • Provide advisory services to customers to support in their development of business cases to convert to wood pellet for process heat
  • Contribute to the company’s energy development strategy across all business units
  • Travel to sites as required throughout New Zealand

Experience Required

Essential

  • A tertiary qualification in engineering or similar
  • 5+ years of experience within the energy sector
  • Ability to self-start and problem solve
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite

Preferred

  • Experience in contract negotiation
  • Private sector experience in developing and delivering process heat projects
  • Proficient understanding of electricity contracts and the wholesale market
