About the Team

The Storage Access Abstractions team bridges the gap between Product Engineering’s evolving needs and infrastructure capabilities by building database-agnostic, developer-friendly APIs that simplify access to online data at scale. Our mission is to enable product engineers to focus on solving business problems by providing a seamless and intuitive stateful data access layer, without needing to manage the complexity of robust, secure, and high-performance storage primitives.

We’re currently building the next generation online data storage abstraction layers on top of scalable distributed databases (including Cassandra) to serve engineers across Doordash + Wolt globally. The team is at a pivotal phase, transitioning from architectural design and deep development to taking the first steps towards production readiness. We are just getting started, and there is still a lot to build and define, both in shaping the team and the product!

About the Role

We’re now hiring an Engineering Manager to lead building next-generation storage access abstraction layers. You will lead a team of highly skilled engineers in designing, building and optimizing the new platform and ensuring smooth developer onboarding, constant improvement and optimization. Doordash and Wolt operate at significant scale and are growing rapidly: performance, availability and scalability are central to the team's work.

Your team will be responsible for building and maintaining an abstraction layer in front of distributed storage systems, ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability. You will help shape the future of storage abstraction, driving innovation in database efficiency, fault tolerance, and operational simplicity, allowing engineers across DoorDash and Wolt to focus on delivering great product experiences. You will collaborate with infrastructure and product engineers across global teams, including those in the US and EU timezones, to ensure the platform meets their evolving storage and scalability needs.

You will report to the Director of the Core Group in Wolt’s Product Organization, collaborating closely with our peers at Doordash.

Lead and mentor a team of senior engineers focused on scaling and optimizing distributed databases and abstractions.

Drive architectural decisions for high-performance, fault-tolerant data abstractions built on top of NoSQL databases (e.g., Cassandra).

Collaborate cross-functionally with platform, infrastructure, and application teams to ensure seamless data access, consistency, and reliability.

Facilitate stakeholder management and build a relationship with our customers internally spanning across timezones.

Bring expertise in building and operating high scale systems and open source softwares with a focus on reliability, scalability, efficiency and ease of use

Build, sustain, and grow a diverse team to address the growing needs of the organization

We’re excited about you because…

You have 5+ years of experience in backend/infrastructure engineering, with 2+ years leading engineering teams.

You have hands-on experience with one or more large-scale databases ( Cassandra, DynamoDB, or similar).

You have a strong track record of hiring, onboarding, and mentoring Senior Engineers.

You excel in technical leadership, providing guidance in architecture decisions, performance improvements, and team growth.

You are execution-driven, with a proven ability to deliver large-scale distributed storage solutions in fast-moving environments.

You treat infrastructure as a product — obsess over the developer experience, ensure the platform is intuitive, easy to adopt and delivers measurable value to internal customers.

You champion a culture of customer obsession and feedback-driven development, ensuring the team deeply understands and responds to the needs of engineers relying on the platform.
