Mō te tūranga | About the role
- 12-months fixed-term role.
- The Hydrology team measures river flow, water level and rainfall across the Waikato region. This information is used to manage both floods and droughts.
- This is a support role where you will be helping staff undertaking their work.
- Typically, a third of your time will be based in the field undertaking measurements and site maintenance (basic building and vegetation control).
- A portion of your time will require you to be in office documenting procedures, data entry and asset management.
- The fieldwork includes driving utes, working in lakes and rivers, boat work, climbing up and down banks in all sorts of weather.
- You need to be physically fit.
- Required to stay away overnight a few nights each month.
- Good computer skills is a must.
- An eye for detail when processing and managing field data to ensure it is correctly stored in our databases.
- There is considerable on the job training (including Health and Safety), and you will be well supported by the rest of the team.
Mō te tangata | About you
- An understanding of hydrology concepts.
- Keen to learn and work in a team environment.
- Excellent communication skills – written and verbal.
- Good level of computer skills including Microsoft products, especially word and excel. Comfortable learning new technology as we have a number of databases and mobile apps.
- An eye for detail – high degree of accuracy when undertaking tasks.
- Physically fit & competent swimmer: able to work full days in challenging fieldwork.
- Be able to stay away overnight for work from time to time.
- A safe driver.
Mō ngā pūkenga | Qualifications and experience
Required
- Strong NCEA results in Math and Science.
- Full NZ drivers’ licence
Desirable
- Experience in data entry and asset management.
- BSC in Environmental or Earth Sciences.
- Knowledge of Surveying (physical land and water features)
- Knowledge of electrical, communications or telemetry systems
- 4WD certification
- First Aid certification
