We currently have an opening for an Estimator – Technical Sales role in our Elmira, ON office. Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, this primarily on-site role is responsible for:

Drawing Interpretation & Technical Review

• Review customer drawings, specifications, and RFQ documentation to understand scope and manufacturing requirements.
• Identify design details, weld requirements, tolerances, steel grades, and any features that influence fabrication cost.

Material Takeoffs & Quantification

• Perform detailed material takeoffs for structural steel sections, plate, accessories, fasteners, and assembly components.

Cost Estimating & Pricing Support

• Develop labour, material, and process cost estimates for cutting, forming, welding, machining, galvanizing, coatings, and logistics.
• Utilize historical cost data and supplier pricing to prepare accurate and competitive cost models.
• Support pricing strategy, margin evaluation, and commercial decision-making.

Scoping & Methodology Development

• Assist in scoping new opportunities by identifying technical requirements, risks, assumptions, and cost drivers early in the bid cycle.
• Lead and support the development of new estimating methodologies that leverage technology—including data-driven estimating tools, automation, standardized templates, and digital workflows—to increase estimating efficiency and accuracy.
• Participate in internal initiatives to streamline processes, reduce manual effort, and improve consistency across quotations.

Cross‑Functional Coordination

• Collaborate with Engineering to resolve technical uncertainties and ensure manufacturability alignment.
• Engage Supply Chain for up‑to‑date material pricing, supplier quotes, and external process costs.
• Provide Manufacturing with feasibility assessments for complex or heavy fabricated items requiring special handling.

Bid Package Preparation

• Prepare complete quotation packages including cost summaries, scope statements, clarifications, exclusions, and internal approvals.
• Ensure submissions meet customer requirements and internal quality expectations.

Process & Data Management

• Maintain organized estimate files, templates, historical cost references, and BOM data.
• Support continuous improvement of estimating tools, cost databases, and workflow efficiency.

Other duties as assigned.

We are looking for someone who has:

• 3–5 years of experience in steel fabrication, structural components, tower manufacturing, or related industrial estimating roles.
• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and weld symbols.
• Experience completing material takeoffs and detailed steel fabrication cost estimates.
• Strong understanding of fabrication workflows, including cutting, forming, welding, machining, and galvanizing.
• Proficiency with CAD viewers, Microsoft Excel, and estimating or ERP systems.
• Strong analytical and documentation skills; comfortable working in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
• Experience with digital tools, automation, or process optimization is an asset.

Salary range for this position is expected to be between $70,000 and $85,000 depending on experience and qualifications. Candidates must be located in Canada and legally eligible to work here.
