Nature of Work



Under general supervision at the full performance level, this position is critical as it provides upkeep in building safety for inmates and staff. Performs preventative maintenance on numerous items and systems through the entire facility as allowed by code and standard. Such as electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work. Maintains the facility’s heating and cooling equipment. This employee is responsible, in part, for snow removal and lawn care and maintains fleet for the department to include, but not limited to: lawn mowers, weed eaters, tractor, etc. Provides repair in electrical, plumbing and building structures such as doors, windows, floors, etc. Works with inmate crew to accomplish some tasks. Maintains logs and charts and completion of purchase orders for the department.

Minimum Qualifications

Training: Graduation from a standard four-year high school or GED or four year apprenticeship program or two year post secondary technical school.

Substitution: Experience in air-conditioning, heating or refrigeration may be substituted for the required training on a year-for-year basis.

Experience: Four years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in heating, cooling, ventilation or the mechanical or building trades such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, plasterer, painter, welder, machinist, mechanic or masonry work.

Special Requirement: Specific positions may require certification from a federal EPA approved testing organization as a certified technician required by the clean Air Act on refrigerant recycling.
