Job Summary
Holders of the post will be required to perform any duties appropriate to the post of Fitter Mechanic which may be assigned from time to time including but not limited to:
- Work under the direction and control of the Chief Fire Officer
- Undergo specialist training in the maintenance and repair of equipment. It may be necessary to travel outside the County for this training.
- Drive Fire Service vehicles.
- Carry out maintenance work and repairs on all Fire Service appliances and equipment.
- Travel to Fire Stations within the County to carry out duties.
- Other duties as may be assigned from time to time as directed by the Chief Fire Officer.
Each candidate at the time of application must –
- Be a qualified Heavy Vehicle Mechanic/Construction Plant Fitter and have served a recognised apprenticeship and obtained a minimum National Craft Cert or equivalent. Candidates must supply documentary evidence in support of this to the satisfaction of the Local Authority.
- Have a minimum 5 years post apprenticeship experience working in a recognised garage, with experience of service and repair of commercial/construction vehicles including diagnostics and electrical systems, overhaul of petrol and diesel engines, pumps and compressor etc. as well as welding and fabrication capabilities.
- Hold a full unendorsed current driving licence in respect of Category C vehicles or equivalent in the EU Model Driving Licence.
- Have good communication skills, record keeping skills and be capable of writing clear and concise reports.
Each candidate is required to hold a current, full, unendorsed Driving Licence – Category B & C at the time of application.
