Located in a beautifully restored textile mill in downtown Lewiston, Baxter Brewing Company is one of the fastest-growing breweries in the Northeast and a recognized leader in Maine’s craft beer community. Connected directly to the brewery, The Pub at Baxter is a full-service restaurant featuring 24 beers on tap, hand-crafted cocktails, and a seasonally driven gastropub menu.

The Pub at Baxter is seeking a strong, decisive, and hands-on General Manager to lead operational improvement, strengthen accountability, and restore consistency across all aspects of the business. This role requires a leader who is energized by building structure, developing people, and creating clarity in environments that need renewed focus and direction.

This is not a maintenance role, this is a leadership role for someone who takes ownership, leads from the floor, and is motivated by improving performance, developing teams, and creating a stable, high-functioning operation.

What You’ll Do

Establish Leadership, Structure, and Accountability

  • Set clear expectations for performance, professionalism, and service standards
  • Provide consistent, visible leadership and direction for managers and team members
  • Address performance issues directly and constructively while developing team capability
  • Build trust and credibility through consistency, fairness, and follow-through

Stabilize and Strengthen Operations

  • Bring structure, organization, and discipline to daily operations
  • Identify gaps, implement solutions, and reinforce operational standards
  • Ensure consistency in scheduling, service execution, and team performance
  • Be actively present on the floor to observe, coach, and lead in real time

Own and Understand the Business

  • Develop a deep understanding of the financial and operational drivers of the business, including labor, sales, costs, and productivity
  • Use data and daily performance indicators to make informed, proactive operational decisions
  • Understand how staffing, scheduling, service execution, and operational discipline directly impact financial performance
  • Monitor trends, identify opportunities, and take action to improve efficiency, profitability, and sustainability
  • Partner with leadership to align operational decisions with both immediate performance and long-term business health
  • Understand that every operational decision, from staffing to service execution, has a direct impact on the financial performance and future stability of the business

Improve Team Performance and Reliability

  • Recruit, develop, and retain strong team members and future leaders
  • Create clarity in roles, expectations, and accountability across the operation
  • Support managers in leading their teams effectively and confidently
  • Build a team environment grounded in ownership, professionalism, and consistency

Deliver Consistent, High-Quality Guest Experiences

  • Ensure guests receive reliable, high-quality service every visit
  • Address operational and guest issues promptly and effectively
  • Reinforce service standards that reflect pride in our product and environment

What You Bring

  • Proven success leading restaurant or hospitality operations as a General Manager or senior leader
  • Experience improving performance, restoring accountability, or stabilizing operations
  • Strong financial and operational acumen, with the ability to connect daily execution to business performance
  • Strong leadership presence and the ability to make clear, confident decisions
  • Hands-on leadership style willing to lead from the floor, not just the office
  • Ability to develop people while maintaining high standards
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Preferred:

  • Full-service restaurant leadership experience
  • Experience leading teams through operational improvement or change
  • Passion for hospitality and guest experience
