We are looking for a General Manager in Sunhill Nurisng Home to support our Person in Charge in their role, providing leadership and support to our care and nursing staff whilst maintaining the highest quality of individualised person-centred care for our residents.

The role will provide operational oversight within the nursing home to support the effective and efficient delivery of high-quality, resident-centred services. Working closely with the Person in Charge (PIC), the post holder will contribute to the operational, administrative, financial, workforce, quality, and clinical governance functions of the home, ensuring full compliance with HIQA standards, relevant legislation, organisational policies, and best practice guidelines. This position combines strong operational leadership with elements of clinical oversight and quality governance, underpinning the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate care to all residents.

About The Role


Roles & Responsibilities

  • Support the Person in Charge (PIC) in leading the day-to-day operations of the nursing home, ensuring a high-quality, safe, and efficient service delivery.
  • Play a key role in driving service improvement and implementing operational and strategic initiatives that enhance resident care and organisational performance.
  • Oversee resident flow, including admissions and discharges, ensuring a smooth and person-centred experience for residents and their families.
  • Champion high standards of clinical governance and quality, actively supporting audits, inspections, and continuous improvement programmes.
  • Use data and performance insights to monitor key clinical and operational indicators, driving informed decision-making and service excellence.
  • Support financial and operational performance through effective budget oversight, workforce planning, and efficient resource management.
  • Provide visible, hands-on leadership across the home, motivating teams, supporting development, and fostering a positive, inclusive working environment.
  • Ensure the home consistently meets HIQA standards and regulatory requirements, with a strong focus on compliance, safety, and inspection readiness.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety by supporting risk management, health & safety practices, and emergency preparedness across the service.
  • Put residents at the heart of everything you do by encouraging engagement, listening to feedback, and promoting dignity, respect, and person-centred care.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Registered General Nurse qualification and current or eligibility for NMBI registration.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ management experience within a healthcare or residential care setting.
  • Strong knowledge of HIQA standards, healthcare regulations, and governance requirements.
  • Experience in operational management, workforce management, and quality improvement processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Experience in nursing home or older persons services.
  • Strong financial awareness and business acumen.
  • Ability to work under own initiative

Desirable Criteria

  • Relevant third-level qualification in Healthcare Management, Nursing, Business Management, or related discipline.
  • Experience participating in HIQA inspections and regulatory compliance management.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift but may be adjusted based on needs of the home. Flexibility is essential given the nature of the role.

Required Criteria

  • Minimum 3 years’ post qualification experience
  • Post registration management qualification in health or a related field
  • Excellent knowledge of HIQA standards
  • Be registered with NMBI or be entitled to be so registered
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and proven written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Possesses the clinical, administrative and leadership capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role
