Healthcare Assistance
Location: Donegal
Contract: Full-time / Permanent
Service Type: Residential Services – Adults with Disabilities
Purpose of the Role
The Healthcare Assistant provides high-quality, person-centred support to residents in line with HIQA Regulations, National Standards, and organisational policies. The role focuses on supporting residents’ daily living, health, wellbeing, dignity, and independence in a safe and respectful environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Person-Centred Care & Support
- Support residents with activities of daily living (personal care, hygiene, dressing, mobility, meals)
- Promote residents’ choice, dignity, privacy, and independence
- Support residents to engage in meaningful activities and community inclusion
- Follow individual care plans and risk assessments
- Health, Safety & Safeguarding
- Adhere to safeguarding policies and report any concerns promptly
- Support infection prevention and control practices
- Promote a safe environment by following health and safety procedures
- Assist with moving and handling in line with training
- Medication & Clinical Support
- Support medication management in accordance with training and policy
- Monitor residents’ wellbeing and report changes to senior staff
- Support attendance at medical and allied health appointments
- Communication & Documentation
- Maintain accurate daily records and documentation
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and the multidisciplinary team
- Report incidents, accidents, or concerns in line with policy
- Teamwork & Professional Practice
- Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Attend mandatory training, supervision, and staff meetings
- Adhere to organisational policies, procedures, and codes of conduct
- Maintain professional boundaries at all times
Essential Criteria
- QQI Level 5 qualification in Healthcare Support, Nursing Studies, or equivalent
- Experience working in a health or social care setting (desirable but not essential)
- Knowledge of person-centred care principles
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights and weekends
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Respectful, reliable, and caring approach
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working with adults with disabilities
- Training in safeguarding, medication support, and infection control
- Experience in residential care settings
