About the Role:

Are you passionate about workplace health and safety and ready to make a positive impact in a dynamic university environment? We’re looking for a motivated Health & Safety Coordinator to join our dedicated team and help promote a safe and compliant workplace for all staff, students, and stakeholders.

Reporting to the Lead Health & Safety Advisor, this role provides professional health and safety advice across the University. You will support risk management initiatives, liaise with contractors and regulatory bodies, and contribute to the ongoing development of health and safety programs, procedures, and training.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop your WHS expertise in a complex, diverse environment — and play a vital part in strengthening our safety culture.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Provide support and advice on WHS processes, compliance, and training to staff and line managers.
  • Assist with risk assessments, hazard identification, and incident reporting and investigations.
  • Interpret and apply relevant legislation, codes of practice, and Australian Standards.
  • Coordinate contractor safety processes and maintain the contractor database.
  • Assist with health and safety data entry and reporting, including hazardous materials records.
  • Facilitate workplace inspections and report on findings.
  • Support the delivery of health and safety training and promote safety awareness campaigns.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including health and safety representatives and government agencies.
  • Assist with H&S Representative elections and communication.
  • Contribute to strategic and operational safety planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
Who we are looking for:

You are a proactive and detail-oriented health and safety professional who thrives in a collaborative team environment. You bring a practical understanding of WHS legislation and can communicate safety requirements clearly and confidently.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting health and safety systems and resolving WHS-related issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A collaborative team player committed to upholding the University’s values and behaviours.
Desirable:
Experience in interpreting data to identify trends and preparing high-quality reports.

Role Requirements:
  • As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered.
  • Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin’s satisfaction.
