Reporting to: H&S Manager
Salary: TBC
Hours: 40 hours
Role Purpose
The Senior Health & Safety Manager is responsible for leading the organisation’s health & safety strategy, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and best practices. This role oversees the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of H&S policies, risk management processes, and safety culture across the client site. The postholder provides full time, expert guidance to senior leadership and manages the H&S initiatives and systems to deliver a safe and compliant working environment.
This position should have the capability to identify gaps, design and implement H&S systems to mitigate risk and decrease H&S incidents onsite. A senior H&S person who can represent ISS HSEQ at a global level both metrically and individually.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Leadership
- Lead the development and execution of the company-wide H&S strategy.
- Champion a proactive safety culture and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide expert advice to senior leadership on emerging risks, legislation changes, and strategic planning.
- Lead and mentor the ISS team in H&S, ensuring high-quality performance around our safety culture.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure full compliance with all relevant Health & Safety legislation, standards, and codes of practice.
- Maintain and continually update H&S policies, procedures, and documentation.
- Manage regulatory audits, inspections, and reporting obligations.
- Liaise with external bodies (HSA, local authorities, insurance providers, auditors).
Risk Management
- Oversee the risk assessment programme, ensuring risks are identified, assessed, and controlled.
- Lead incident/accident investigations and implement preventative actions.
- Ensure robust safety management systems (SMS) are maintained.
Training & Awareness
- Develop and deliver H&S training programmes to employees and contractors.
- Ensure mandatory training compliance across all functions.
- Promote awareness campaigns and behavioural safety initiatives.
Operational Oversight
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and safety reviews.
- Support project teams with H&S planning for new works, refurbishments, and operational changes.
- Manage contractor H&S compliance and onboarding processes.
- Monitor H&S performance indicators and present reports to senior management.
Incident Management
· Carry out accident investigation in order to identify route causes using analysis tools such as 6 box.
· Ensure control measures are identified and applied.
· Ensure hazards are identified, risks are documented and minimised.
· Assist, identify and champion best practice.
· Manage non-conformances and complaints and record centrally.
Qualifications:
· Third level qualification in Occupational Health & Safety Management
· IOSH/NEBOSH Certified
· Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Health and Safety role
Highly Desirable:
· Competency in the Facility Services Sector.
· Knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation.
Skills:
· Ability to develop safety programs and safety innovation.
· Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
· Audit and review.
· Training delivery and presentation skills.
· Experience developing risk assessments and method statements

Other features of the job
- It may be necessary to work alternative hours, shift patterns or unsociable hours, including weekends and sometimes more than contracted hours.
- As part of your job, you will be expected to attend training events and/or meetings and travel to other locations may be required.
- Local requirements will govern your patterns and locations of work.
