Overview
The Human Resources Manager is responsible for overseeing all HR and payroll functions for our Canadian team, including full-cycle employee onboarding and offboarding, payroll administration through UKG, policy development and communication in collaboration with the executive team, benefits administration, WSIB reporting and compliance, and supporting recruitment and performance management activities. The role ensures consistent application of HR policies, maintains accurate and confidential HR and payroll records, and promotes a positive and productive employee culture. In addition, the Human Resources Manager provides leadership and direction for HR processes across the company’s international entities and oversees the Human Resources Generalist at our U.S. location in Ohio, ensuring alignment of HR practices and effective support of organizational goals.
Duties
- · Provide recruitment support, including candidate sourcing, screening, and assisting with selection.
- · Coordinate and execute onboarding and offboarding, including documentation, UKG/timeclock setup, systems access, and orientation.
- · Implement, maintain, and communicate employee policies in collaboration with leadership, promoting a positive and consistent workplace culture
- · Support employee relations by coaching supervisors, addressing performance issues, supporting conflict resolution, and ensuring fair and consistent application of policies.
- · Maintain accurate and confidential employee files, HRIS/UKG records, and payroll documentation in compliance with legislation.
- · Process full-cycle payroll for all Canada-based employees, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with Ontario payroll and employment laws.
- · Administer compensation and benefits programs, including health, dental, life insurance, disability, pension, vacation, and leave plans; communicate changes to employees as needed.
- · Oversee WSIB reporting, injury documentation, return-to-work coordination, and manage related claims such as LTD.
- · Maintain and update job descriptions and support organizational structure needs.
- · Provide leadership and direction for HR processes across global entities and manage the HR Generalist at the Ohio location.
- · Ensure compliance with federal/provincial employment legislation, health and safety requirements, and payroll regulations; consult with legal counsel as needed.
- · Support HR reporting and analytics using UKG, Excel, and HRIS tools, including workforce metrics, headcount, and payroll data.
- · Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance HR processes, systems, and employee experience.
- · Assist with planning and coordination of employee events and engagement activities.
- · Provide administrative and strategic support to the President and VP Finance, including ad hoc HR and compliance tasks.
- · Participate in health and safety initiatives and support training and compliance monitoring.
- · Perform other duties as assigned to support HR operations and organizational priorities.
Qualification and Experience
Education
- ·Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Commerce, or related field
- ·CHRP/CHRL designation or in progress (preferred)
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience
- · Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment strongly preferred
- Hands-on full-cycle payroll experience required
Technical Requirements
- UKG Pro (UltiPro) experience is required (HR, Payroll, and Time & Attendance modules)
- Strong HRIS competency and comfort running reports
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- · Strong knowledge of Ontario Employment Standards Act (ESA)
- · Understanding of Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA)
- · Solid understanding of HR best practices, employee relations, coaching, and performance management
- · Expertise in full-cycle payroll processing for hourly and salaried employees
- · Knowledge of Ontario payroll legislation, source deductions, statutory holiday rules, overtime calculations, and shift premiums
- · Ability to interpret and apply payroll data with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality
- · Experience preparing, reconciling, and auditing payroll reports (ROEs, T4s, etc.)
- · Proficiency with UKG Pro (UltiPro) — Payroll, Time & Attendance, and Reporting
- · Strong MS Excel skills
- · Strong written and verbal communication skills
- · Ability to handle conflict, mediate employee issues, and coach supervisors
- · Ability to work effectively with plant leadership, hourly workforce, and external partners
- · Ability to manage HR and payroll in a fast-paced, manufacturing environment
- · Strong organizational and prioritization skills
- · High attention to detail and confidentiality
- · Ability to lead HR initiatives and support continuous improvement
- · Ability to interpret data and make informed HR decisions
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $85,000.00-$95,000.00 per year
