Job Description – Assistant Teacher:

The Early Childhood Assistant Teacher, under the supervision of the classrooms Lead Teacher and the Center Director, is responsible for assisting the Lead Teacher and implementing a developmentally appropriate educational based program for the classroom assigned. The curriculum must meet the emotional, physical, cognitive and social needs for the individual child and group of children. The curriculum must follow the state developmental standards provided.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greets both parents and children in a warm friendly manner.
  • Makes sure to be knowledgeable about each child’s medical and developmental histories.
  • Reads and signs all medical care plans and profiles.
  • Provides a warm, safe, and caring environment that is kept orderly, clean, and appealing. The environment should reflect the centers philosophy and allow each child to grow and explore.
  • Attends to children's basic needs by feeding them, dressing them, and changing their diapers.
  • Assists with teaching proper eating habits (use utensils) and personal hygiene.
  • Assists in serving meals and snacks in accordance with nutritional guidelines.
  • Initials the cleaning checklist when applicable.
  • Assists in the preparation and follow through of daily activities both indoor and outdoor, as they relate to the curriculum.
  • Interacts with the children and encourages involvement in all activities.
  • Assists in supervising class projects, field trips, visits by guests, or other experiential activities, and help with guiding students in learning from those activities.
  • Assists in maintaining the daily attendance records.
  • Assists in maintaining proper discipline and assists students in developing self discipline and a sense of responsibility.
  • Assists in ongoing developmental records for each child.
  • Greets parents when picking up making sure to maintain good communication with by addressing any concerns that may have occurred that day.
  • Gets incident/injury reports signed by parents.
  • Works with other staff members to form a positive, supportive team and atmosphere.
  • Responsible for maintaining positive, courteous, and professional relationships with parents, children, all staff members, and professional staff from other related agencies.
  • Maintains adherence to all center policies and procedures.
  • Ensures confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Must work days and hours assigned to perform all duties required. Needs to be punctual and timely each and every day.
  • Attends all staff meetings.
  • Attends workshops, conferences, and any in-service trainings requested by the Center Director.
  • Serves as the designee when the Lead Teacher when the Lead Teacher is unavailable for any reason.

Minimum Position Requirements:

  • Ability to effectively interact and relate to children in a developmentally appropriate manner.
  • Must be sensitive to individual children’s different needs, and be willing to adjust the program and curriculum to meet those individual’s needs.
  • Must be motivated to learn and grow in an educational environment; and be willing to continually increase knowledge in the field of Early Childhood Education.
  • Must be able to relate and speak to parents in a respectful and courteous manner.
  • Must be willing to work in a team environment; be willing to share ideas and be open to other’s ideas; be flexible and willing to compromise.

Special Requirements and Physical Demands:

  • Regular requirements, as needed, to lift children, including bending, stooping, stretching, squatting, pushing and pulling, sitting and walking.
  • Noise level may possibly be moderate to loud.
  • Employees must adhere to the regular cleaning requirements set forth per classroom. This includes but is not limited to cleaning tables, shelves, cubbies, counter tops, bathrooms, cots, toys, mopping, and laundering toys and sheets. We need to uphold a high level of cleanliness so to maintain a safe and healthy environment both inside and out for each and every child

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
