The Infection Control Nurse (ICN) is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and evaluating infection prevention and control policies and procedures throughout the hospital. The role ensures compliance with regulatory standards, facilitates staff education, and works to reduce the risk of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) to patients, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Surveillance & Reporting:
  • Monitor and document healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).
  • Conduct surveillance rounds in all patient care areas.
  • Maintain infection control records and submit reports to authorities (e.g., NABH, local public health).
  • Identify and investigate infection outbreaks, and implement corrective actions.
  • Policy & Procedure Implementation:
  • Develop, update, and implement infection control policies and procedures in line with national and international guidelines (CDC, WHO, NABH).
  • Ensure compliance with standard precautions, transmission-based precautions, and hand hygiene practices.
  • Training & Education:
  • Conduct regular training sessions for hospital staff on infection prevention, hand hygiene, PPE usage, biomedical waste management, etc.
  • Educate new employees during induction on infection control practices.
  • Audits & Compliance:
  • Conduct regular infection control audits (e.g., hand hygiene compliance, sterilization practices, environmental cleaning).
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to infection prevention.
  • Ensure compliance with biomedical waste management rules.
  • Coordination & Communication:
  • Work closely with departments like housekeeping, nursing, CSSD, and lab to ensure infection control measures are followed.
  • Serve as a member/secretary of the Infection Control Committee.
  • Liaise with local health authorities during outbreaks or for notifiable diseases.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: B.Sc. Nursing or GNM
  • Experience: 1–3 years of clinical experience; experience in infection control is desirable
  • Mandatory Certifications: Infection Control Training (e.g., CDC, NABH-accredited course)

Key Skills:

  • Good knowledge of microbiology and infection transmission
  • Familiarity with NABH standards and biomedical waste rules
  • Attention to detail and strong observational skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to train and motivate staff

Work Conditions:

  • Hospital-based role with regular ward visits and training sessions

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
