Job Summary
Select Landscaping & Construction is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented gardener to help maintain high-end residential landscapes. This hands-on role requires expertise in planting, pruning, and identifying plant health issues. The ideal candidate will maintain clean, refined garden beds, perform seasonal tasks with precision, and ensure all softscape elements remain healthy and presentable. Strong plant knowledge, including pests and diseases, and a commitment to weed-free, well-structured gardens are essential.

Duties

  • Maintain garden beds through routine weeding, edging, mulching, deadheading, and debris removal
  • Prune shrubs, perennials, and small trees as required, removing all deadwood and encouraging healthy growth
  • Identify and monitor signs of plant disease, nutrient deficiency, or pest infestation, and report concerns to management
  • Execute seasonal planting, including annuals, bulbs, perennials, and small trees, according to site-specific design and horticultural standards
  • Accurately identify common plant species and understand their care requirements, including water, light, and soil preferences
  • Perform lawn mowing and trimming where required, ensuring clean lines and uniform cuts
  • Follow seasonal maintenance schedules and adapt duties based on plant growth cycles and client needs
  • Use appropriate hand tools and light equipment safely and effectively on-site
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of job sites, tools, and vehicles at all times
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to ensure site expectations are met

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in garden or landscape maintenance, horticulture, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of plant identification, including common perennials, annuals, shrubs, and small trees
  • Familiarity with pruning techniques, deadheading, and general plant care best practices
  • Ability to identify common plant diseases, pests, and signs of stress, with appropriate follow-up actions
  • Proficient with hand tools and small landscaping equipment (e.g., pruners, trimmers, blowers)
  • Strong attention to detail and a personal standard for maintaining clean, weed-free, and well-structured garden beds
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to job sites
  • Formal horticultural training or certification is an asset (preferred)
