He Pou a Rangi Climate Change Commission is an independent agency dedicated to driving climate action in Aotearoa New Zealand, with a strong statutory mandate. We provide impartial, evidence-based advice to the Government on mitigating and adapting to climate change. We also monitor progress towards emissions reduction and adaptation goals and report on this publicly.

Join the Commission as we build out from our initial focus on emissions reduction to a comprehensive approach that includes adaptation, the national climate risk assessment, and monitoring the country's progress on climate action. Te turanga | The role

The Team Manager - Built Environment and Energy Transition will be expected to provide leadership and management oversight for the development and delivery of high-quality analysis and advice on emissions budgets, policies to reduce emissions, national risk assessments, monitoring emissions reduction and climate adaptation plans, and/or other reports.

The Built Environment and Energy Transition team sits within the Evidence and Advice Group, alongside the Primary Industries and Environment Team, Analytics and Economics Team, and Principal Advisor - M ori Economy.

The likely appointment range for this role is between $156,997 to $175,467 per annum, depending on skills and experience.

Ng herenga | The role will involve

  • Lead and develop a team of analysts with differing levels of experience and seniority to deliver high quality and influential advice.
  • Build a culture of collaboration, inclusiveness, challenge, and debate in the team and within the Commission.
  • Help to shape the strategic view of the work program and bring intellectual leadership, new ideas and knowledge to the table.
  • Make sound, timely decisions that keep the organisation and work moving forward.
  • Lead and contribute to multiple pieces of work concurrently in a collaborative manner.
  • Create and apply a range of Western and Te Ao M ori frameworks and analysis methods to provide evidence-based and independent advice.
  • Frame and communicate advice in a way that recognises the needs and concerns of the audience.
  • Support other Commission staff and contribute to the expert analysis provided to the Board, taking on feedback and making enhancements to enable effective decision making.
  • Engage with iwi/M ori in a manner that upholds Tikanga and recognises the Crown - M ori partnership under the Treaty of Waitangi.

  • Successful record of effectively managing people, including leading through change.
  • In-depth experience of management issues (people, resources, systems, and processes), including managing work and people on projects involving collaboration across teams and business groups.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of a range of research, evidence, and analytical methods, including emerging and innovative approaches and frameworks.
  • Sound judgement and awareness of the context within which advice is formulated and communicated.
  • Strong logic and reasoning skills to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions.
  • Highly developed communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Experience working in energy, infrastructure, the built environment, and/or transport policy.
  • Strong understanding of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Te Ao M ori and experience engaging with Iwi/M ori
  • An understanding of government processes, systems, and tools
  • A relevant tertiary qualification and post-graduate, or equivalent, experience.
