About the role

We are looking for a skilled Mental Health and Addictions (MH&A) Manager to join our leadership team and oversee our adult community mental health teams in Nelson Tasman area. In this leadership role, you will manage the delivery of mental health and addiction services to adults within the community. This position presents an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a supportive environment. You will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care while driving service improvements, operational excellence, and effective team management.

About the Team/Service/Location

The Adult MH&A Community Teams provide recovery-oriented support to adults facing mental health and addiction challenges in the Nelson Tasman. Our multidisciplinary teams, consist of clinical coordinators, mental health nurses, psychiatrists, social workers, psychologists, and addiction specialists, providing a holistic approach to care. With a strong foundation in clinical expertise, robust community partnerships, and recovery-focused programmes, we are committed to achieving positive outcomes for our clients. The service fosters a supportive environment that prioritises collaboration, cultural sensitivity, and ongoing professional development.

About you:

The ideal candidate will:

  • Provide both operational and clinical leadership, creating a supportive, high-performing, and collaborative team culture.
  • Oversee the Adult MH&A Community Teams, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and culturally sensitive care.
  • Support the wellbeing and development of the community team contributing to a positive team culture
  • Lead service development, innovation, and continuous quality enhancement initiatives.
  • Manage resources, budgets, and team performance to meet service goals.
  • Work in partnership with stakeholders, community organisations, and service users to improve care pathways and ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant policies, standards, and legislation while upholding clinical and operational excellence.
  • Full NZ professional registration as registered nurse or Allied health.

Skills and experience

The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership skills, clinical expertise, and a genuine commitment to improving MH&A outcomes in the community.

  • Leadership and management experience within a mental health and addiction service.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Experience working within the mental health and addictions field.
  • A sound understanding of adult mental health and addiction service delivery models.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience in resource management, quality improvement, and service development.
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
  • Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to Te Tiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori and Kaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
