A Marine Technician (or Marine Mechanic) inspects, maintains, diagnoses, and repairs mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on boats, yachts, and ships. They ensure engines, propulsion systems, plumbing, and navigation equipment function safely and efficiently, working in marinas, shipyards, and sometimes onboard vessels. Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance & Inspection: Performing routine maintenance such as oil changes, fluid checks, and inspecting engines, hulls, and propellers for issues.
- Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Using diagnostic tools to identify faults in mechanical or electrical systems.
- Repair & Installation: Repairing or replacing inboard/outboard engines, transmissions, steering, and hydraulic systems. Installing new equipment like GPS, radar, and sound systems.
- System Knowledge: Working with specialized systems including marine engines (diesel/gas), fuel management, electrical systems (AC/DC), and HVAC.
- Documentation: Completing service records, repair documentation, and providing repair estimates to customers.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Education/Training: High school diploma, often combined with training from vocational or technical schools specializing in marine technology.
- Skills: Strong mechanical aptitude, understanding of electrical systems, and troubleshooting abilities.
- Physical Ability: Ability to work in confined spaces, lift heavy machinery, and work on land or in water environments.
- Certification: While not always required, certifications (e.g., ABYC, Yamaha, Mercury) are highly preferred
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00-$35.00 per hour
