SUMMARY:
The Medication Access Coordinator (MAC), under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy, is a collaborative agent who assists with increasing patients' access to medications in order to improve healthcare outcomes. The MAC creates, implements, and monitors plans for medications and ensures full utilization of all manufacturers , foundation, and other available resources . The MAC compiles, prepares, and communicates pertinent activities to appropriate team members along with documentation in the medical record and preparation of reporting documents . The MAC should be proficient in the hospital/clinic electronic medical record, pharmacy order entry system, manufacturer portals, and other systems assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Conducts patient insurance and benefits investigation in collaboration with patients.
* Completes prior authorizations, tracks the status, and communicates outcome with patients and providers.
* Communicates with Southwell Pharmacy and external pharmacies to streamline patient experience and maximize medication adherence.
* Identifies payor sources for medications ( i.e.,insurance coverage, manufacturer copay cards, foundation copay assistance , etc.)
* Utilizes Southwell Pharmacy order entry system to manage refills to maximize patient adherence.
* Collaborates with medical office and pharmacy team members.
* Displays understanding and proficiency with medication reimbursement through third party payors, insurance billing, and the prior authorization process.
* Educates providers and patients on MAC services and how these services enhance patient care.
* Floats from areas of low workload to areas of high workload as needed.
* Maintains established turn around time from receipt to resolution of a prescription.
* Facilitates and participates in the training of new MACs.
* Serves as a subject matter experts (SME) for medication prior authorizations.
* Relays patient concerns requiring clinical interpretation to the appropriate provider (MD, DO, NP, PA, RN, RPh, etc.).
* Documents detailed record of workload and associated outcomes.
EDUCATION:
* High School Diploma or Equivalent
CREDENTIALS:
* Registered Pharmacy Technician in the State of Georgia, required
OTHER INFORMATION:
REQUIRED:
* 2 years experience as a Pharmacy Technician
PREFFERED:
* Certified Pharmacy Technician ( CPhT )
* Completion of an Associate's Degree OR Pharmacy Technician Training Program
* Experience with prior authorizations, copay cards, copay assistance foundations, etc.
