Life’s Journey, a CARF accredited, comprehensive mental health, substance abuse, and wellness agency offers a variety of services including outpatient therapy, mental health skill building, crisis stabilization, intensive community treatment, medication assisted opioid treatment, coaching services, and a variety of group counseling services. Life’s Journey is currently expanding our outpatient and substance abuse programs and is seeking Physicians with credentials or experience in addiction, Psychiatrists, Nurse Practitioners with experience in addiction medicine, and licensed Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners. Life’s Journey is seeking full time staff to provide client care. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Implements nursing care in accordance with program procedures established by the Clinical Director and Program Nurse Practitioner .
- Administering drugs, medications, treatments, inoculations, and tests as allowed by law.
- Implementing verbal physician orders and authenticating in writing, within a reasonable time, and included in the patient record.
- Communicating with physicians, Nurse Practitioners, nurses, and pharmacists
- Completing other tasks within the scope of nurses and the program services and procedures.
- Oversees all aspects of the patient admission process, including:
i. Pre-screening of new patients for appropriateness for admission, including TB screening.
ii. Obtaining physical assessment data and health history
iii. Inventorying and caring for patients’ personal possessions.
- Executes prescribed treatments and medical interventions, including transcribing and administering routine and prescribed medications in accordance with procedures established by the Medical Director and Supervising Nurse.
- Records patient observations and activities in patient records accurately and timely in accordance with nursing standards and organizational policy and procedure.
- Actively and compassionately interacts with patients to encourage engagement in treatment.
- Maintains a safe and sanitary environment applying principles of medical asepsis and applying infection control techniques and universal precautions.
- Provides patient education on health care, as assigned or appropriate.
- Monitoring patients’ condition.
- Implements safety and emergency procedures during fire drills and other disaster procedures, with assistance to patients in the programs.
- Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings.
- Follows all policies and procedures with regard to patient information protection, including alcohol drug patient confidentiality (42 CFR) and HIPAA (45 CFR).
- Attends training on chemical dependency as required by employer.
- Maintains and demonstrates a current working knowledge of applicable clinical procedures and nursing care based on company policy and State and Federal guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Appropriate candidates for this position must be either:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and current licensure in Virginia as Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Complete preliminary 40 hours of training to include alcohol and drug education, patient confidentiality requirements, and program policies and procedures.
- Able to read, analyze, and interpret policies and directions and present information effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with chemically dependent individuals non-judgmentally and with caring and compassion.
- Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships with other staff as well as with referral sources
- Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, interpret and evaluate information presented in research reports, professional publications, referral documents and similar materials.
- Ability to write clearly and cohesively and to present information effectively both orally and in writing.
