Job Title: Pharmacist Technician - Retail Pharmacy

Department: Retail Pharmacy

Job Type: Permanent

Hours: 35 per week (Full-Time)


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Pharmacy Technician certification/equivalent science degree - Certification in different areas of Pharmacy


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in the supervised dispensing and supply the drugs, pharmaceuticals and other related items as required by the wards and patients of this hospital to ensure that the needs of the patients and professional staff are met by the pharmaceutical service
  • Participate in the supervised dispensing of discharge, out patient and staff prescriptions
  • To carry out Top-Up system of drugs to the wards in line with agreed levels and frequencies
  • Participate in the supervised preparation of extemporaneous items as required
  • To receive and check incoming goods for accuracy to order and invoice, and to report any discrepancies.
  • The maintenance of stock levels in accordance with the needs of cost-effectiveness, minimisation of waste and audit accountability through computer entry, and performance of stock control procedures, and to assist in year end stock-take.
  • Complying with all necessary procedures for security of the pharmacy.
  • Day to day management of workload and operation of the compounding unit including data entry, preparation of cytotoxics in accordance with prescriptions and maintenance of stock requirements.
  • Carrying out of regular cleaning and disinfection processes
  • Developing, updating and maintaining dispensary procedures
  • To co-operate with clinical, scientific and nursing staff on the maintenance and development of new methods of treatment.
  • Ensure that work schedules and programmes are created, developed and maintained to provide for the most efficient and effective delivery of pharmaceutical services
  • To co-operate with the Chief 1 pharmacist and to assist in the performance of his/her duties
  • To undertake such other duties as appropriate to the office as may be assigned by the Chief 1 pharmacist
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and colleagues.
  • Advocate as necessary for the patients, respecting their dignity and confidentiality.
  • Function effectively in an emergency situation.
  • Adapt to changing workloads.
  • Participate in quality assurance by assisting to identify recurrent problems and co-operate in data collection and problem solving.
  • You must comply with all hospital policies in relation to Infection Prevention and Control. Every employee has a responsibility to know how to reduce infection in their role.

  • Maintain documents according to the policies and procedures of Blackrock Clinic.
  • Report relevant information verbally and in writing to appropriate personnel.
  • Respond appropriately to patient/family requests and questions.
  • Communicate appropriate with colleagues and other members of the team.

  • Attend and contribute in staff meetings and team briefing.
  • Communicate in a manner that avoids antagonism, reduces conflict and prevents undue anxiety.
