We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Phlebotomist to join our dynamic clinical team. This is a rare opportunity to be part of an innovative healthcare environment located in the heart of southern downtown Hamilton.
Position Overview: As a Phlebotomist at Durand Health, you will play a vital role in supporting our diagnostic and treatment services through high-quality specimen collection and patient care. The ideal candidate is warm, friendly, professional, and passionate about delivering an exceptional patient experience. You must be comfortable working in a modern, fast-paced clinical setting, with strong attention to detail and excellent interpersonal communication.
In addition to clinical skills, the successful candidate will demonstrate strong clerical and administrative capabilities, be technologically proficient (including EMR usage), and able to assist with basic patient care tasks such as recording vital signs and supporting clinical workflow.
Responsibilities:
1. Specimen Collection & Processing:
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection from patients of all ages
- Label and prepare blood, urine, and other specimens for laboratory analysis
- Follow all safety and infection control protocols during collection and handling
- Ensure timely and accurate data entry into the EMR system
- Administer vaccines
- Monitor and record patient vitals and conduct health screenings
2. Patient Interaction & Care:
- Greet and identify patients in a professional, friendly, and empathetic manner
- Professional appearance and demeanour
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions and respond appropriately if necessary
- Take and record vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiratory rate)
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with PHIPA
- Wound care and assist with minor procedures
- Provide primary and family medical care, including for pediatric patients.
- Conduct routine follow-ups and monitor patient progress to adjust treatments as necessary
- Utilize EMR systems to maintain accurate and detailed patient records
3. Administrative & Technical Support:
- Complete clerical tasks such as booking appointments, scanning, faxing, patient scheduling, manage emails
- Answer and manage multi-line phone systems
- Verify and update patient demographics and contact information
- Create and prepare laboratory requisitions ensuring they are complete and accurate
- Coordinate out-patient referrals for diagnostic tests and specialists
- Work with the lab to coordinate sample pick-up and reporting
- Manage patient intake, including registration and check-in/check-out procedures
- Distribute and collect forms (e.g., consent forms, intake forms, privacy acknowledgements)
4. Team Collaboration:
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals in the clinic
- Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care
Qualifications:
Completion of a recognized Phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Technician/Assistant program
Certification with a relevant regulatory body (e.g., MLPAO, OSMT)
Minimum of 1–2 years’ experience in a clinical or outpatient setting preferred
Strong venipuncture and specimen handling skills
Ability to take and record accurate vital signs
Warm, friendly, and professional demeanor with a patient-first attitude
Tech-savvy and comfortable navigating EMR systems and digital forms
Clerical and administrative experience in a medical or healthcare setting
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
CPR and First Aid Certification (current)
Knowledge of provincial privacy and infection control standards
High attention to detail and ability to remain calm in fast-paced environments

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00-$20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 8 – 30 per week
