Job Summary
The Planner/Scheduler is responsible for developing, managing, and maintaining project schedules, ensuring timely delivery of construction projects within budget and quality parameters. The Planner/Scheduler will effectively collaborate with project teams, subcontractors, and clients to optimise project timelines and resource allocation while minimising risks and delays.
Key Activities
- Develop clear and accurate tender-stage construction schedules and narrative submissions, supporting the estimating team under tight deadlines.
- Strong understanding of programme requirements under Public Works and RIAI contract frameworks
- Develop and maintain detailed construction schedules using industry‑standard tools (MS Project; Primavera P6; Asta Powerproject an advantage). Break down project scope into clear, manageable work packages and activities, ensuring schedules are fully aligned with project objectives and deliverables.
- Progress Monitoring: Track and update project progress against the baseline schedule, maintaining accuracy and transparency. Identify and report deviations from the plan, including performing critical path analyses.
- Coordination & Communication: Work collaboratively with project managers, site teams, and subcontractors to gather and validate schedule-related data. Facilitate regular progress meetings with stakeholders to review project timelines, address delays, and propose corrective actions.
- Risk Management: Identify potential scheduling risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimise impacts on project delivery. Analyse the effects of scope changes, delays, and unforeseen issues on overall project timelines and budgets.
- Reporting: Prepare and deliver detailed reports such as Gantt charts, S-curves, and project dashboards for stakeholders. Clearly communicate key schedule metrics, updates, and forecasts to project teams and clients.
- Continuous Improvement: Support the integration and adoption of best practices in project planning and scheduling. Participate in lessons learned sessions to provide feedback and improve processes for future projects.
Competencies
- Proficiency in scheduling software (e.g. Primavera P6, MS Project & Asta power project).
- Strong understanding of Irish construction methods, sequencing, and resource management.
- Knowledge of key project management principles (e.g., critical path method, earned value analysis).
- Ability to assess complex data and identify trends, bottlenecks, and opportunities.
- Attention to detail with a focus on accuracy in schedules and reports.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey information to diverse stakeholders.
- Team-oriented approach with the ability to build strong working relationships.
- Proactive approach to resolving scheduling conflicts and project delays.
- Adaptability to work in fast-paced, dynamic construction environments.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in planning and scheduling within the construction industry.
- Experience working on medium to large-scale construction projects.
- Familiarity with Irish construction regulations, standards, and best practices.
