  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $113,574 to $125,720 + super

The role


As a Privacy Officer within the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI), your key responsibilities will include:

  • providing privacy advice and support on a variety of privacy issues
  • ensuring compliance with the NSW Privacy Regime
  • providing support on privacy complaints and issues
  • leading Privacy Impact Assessments on a range of projects, systems and suppliers
  • contributing to the development of the DPHI Privacy Uplift Program
  • delivering training to internal stakeholders to promote a “privacy by design” culture
  • supporting statutory reporting functions
  • representing the Department in external reviews to champion compliance within the NSW public sector

In addition, you'll face the challenge of staying updated with evolving privacy legislation and best practices while managing a diverse workload with competing deadlines.

What you will bring to the role

  • Communication Skills: Proficiency in delivering training and communicating privacy concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Expertise in Privacy Legislation: Demonstrated experience in interpreting and advising on privacy legislation, particularly the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 and the Health Records Information Privacy Act 2002.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse complex privacy issues and provide clear, actionable advice.
  • Collaboration: Experience working collaboratively with various stakeholders to enhance privacy compliance and governance.
  • Understanding of NSW Privacy Regime: In-depth knowledge of the NSW privacy framework and the ability to navigate and apply the specific requirements of the NSW privacy laws and regulations.

Key knowledge and experience

  • Previous demonstrated experience working in an environment requiring interpretation and advice on legislation.
