Production Supervisor – Killowen Farm

Key Expectations of the Role
- Supervisors are expected to lead from the front, actively manage their teams and take ownership of issues rather than deferring responsibility.
- Time spent operating equipment should not compromise supervisory responsibilities.
- Supervisors are accountable for standards in their area, not just tasks completed.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & People Management
- Act as the first point of contact for all people-related matters within the area, including attendance, conduct, performance, training and wellbeing.
- Allocate work, provide clear direction and actively supervise operatives to ensure safe, efficient and compliant operations.
- Coach, support and develop operatives, ensuring all staff are adequately trained and competent to carry out their roles.
- Ensure company rules, procedures and standards are clearly understood and consistently applied.
- Address issues of poor performance or behaviour promptly and escalate in line with company procedures where required.
- Communicate grievances, concerns or employee relations issues to the Shift Coordinator in line with company procedures.
- Promote teamwork, engagement and positive employee relations within the area of responsibility.
2. Safety Ownership
- Be the first point of contact and owner for all health and safety matters within the area.
- Ensure compliance with all company health and safety policies, procedures and legal requirements.
- Actively monitor safe working practices and intervene immediately where unsafe acts or conditions are identified.
- Ensure accidents, incidents and near misses are reported.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, hygiene and safe working practices at all times.
3. Quality & Food Safety
- Act as the first point of contact for quality and food safety issues on shift.
- Ensure all products are manufactured in full compliance with the Quality Management System, food safety standards and customer requirements.
- Monitor quality standards, take corrective action where deviations occur and escalate issues as required.
- Ensure hygiene standards, GMP and documentation requirements are consistently met within the area.
4. Operational & Performance Management
- Ensure the availability and readiness of materials, machinery and equipment to meet production requirements.
- Monitor equipment performance and raise maintenance requests promptly when issues arise.
- Support problem solving in the area and liaise with maintenance, quality and other site functions as required.
- Achieve area targets and standards relating to safety, quality, output, waste and efficiency through effective supervision and teamwork.
- Provide clear and timely updates to the Shift Coordinator on area performance, risks and issues requiring attention.
5. Deputising & Escalation
- Deputise for the Shift Coordinator in their absence, ensuring continuity of leadership and standards.
- Escalate issues appropriately where they exceed the Supervisor’s authority or require management intervention.
Qualifications
- Leaving certificate or equivalent (ideally)
- Third level qualification an advantage
Knowledge and Experience
- Minimum 1 year manufacturing supervisory experience
- Ideally within a food processing environment but may consider other manufacturing experience.
- Excellent knowledge and experience of manufacturing processes and techniques
- Experience in leading a team and problem resolution
