Tenei turanga - About the Role:

The "Our Future Services" programme will deliver a more cost-effective immigration system that is more productive, more effective at managing immigration risk, and provides a better experience for our customers and staff.


The programme will be delivered through multiple workstreams working in parallel, with each workstream implementing key initiatives with set milestone dates.



The Programme Architect will report to the Head of Technology Strategy within the Technology Architecture division and will be focused specifically on the "Our Future Services" programme.

You will

  • Work closely with the Immigration NZ Enterprise Architect and MBIE's wider Architecture function to ensure the program remains aligned with MBIE's central governance functions.
  • Support MBIE's strategy and architectural concerns within the Immigration systems "Our Future Services" (OFS) Programme.
  • Identify, evaluate, and recommend strategic technology options for the OFS programme within the wider MBIE context, and advising on those options, the key risks, costs, benefits, system impacts and priorities.
  • Ensure compliance between programme initiatives, enterprise transformation activities and technology directions.
  • Support good decision making at senior leadership levels by providing factual, accurate and well positioned advice

  • Proven experience working with business leaders facilitating strategy and strategic planning.
  • Proven ability to build trust, credibility and form strong relationships at all levels within an organisation.
  • Wide knowledge base across architectural domains, business practice and systems.
  • Experience supporting or developing large Investment propositions or business cases with a strong focus on clarity of problems benefits.
  • The ability to provide thought leadership to both business stakeholders and the virtual team of architects who will look to you for direction.
  • Demonstrated understanding of medium to long-term technology trends and the implications for heavily digital and technology dependent organisations.
  • Strong understanding of the machinery of government, the processes and systems that underpin operations of and investment within the public sector environment. or equivalent private sector experience.
